Hello,

I’m new to the forum and to the Toyotas also.

I’ve been reading this forum and got the impression that early vvti engines are drinking way to much oil.

I want to spend about 3500 pounds and get a car with up to 6 years old and 60000 miles.

I found two of them and would appreciate any advice, like: what to look for, running cost difference, etc…

Car 1:

Avensis Estate 1.8 SE Spec. Edt., W reg with 51000 miles. FOR 3450

Manufacturer TOYOTA

Model AVENSIS SE

Body type ESTATE

Colour BLUE

Fuel type PETROL

Date manufactured 20 March 2000

Number of previous owners 1

Last owner change 29 November 2000

This is pre VVTI car, with lean burn engine

This car is from official Toyota dealer and comes with Toyota approved used cars package.

Car 2:

Corolla 5 doors 1.4 vvti GS, 51 reg with 27000 miles. FOR 3795

Manufacturer TOYOTA

Model COROLLA VVTI GS

Body type 5 DOOR HATCHBACK

Colour RED

Fuel type PETROL

Date manufactured 07 September 2001

Number of previous owners 1

Last owner change 11 November 2003

This car is from local garage, price looks too low…

Thanks in advance

Andrey

Go for the Avensis - I bought a W reg (from April 2000) Avensis 1.8 SE lean burn last week, 1 old-man owner, 44,000 miles, 10 disc cd changer, alloys, air con etc. bargain £2645- Its BRILLIANT!!

That model of Avensis was renowned for its infallibility -- as some TopGear person put it, you're guaranteed endless boring miles. Sure, it's not sexy, I don't think you care, but it's roomy and reliable. Any car that is the last model before a new one comes has had all the problems ironed out and the specs upped to make it more saleable as people start waiting for the next model. I think you'll be getting more car for your money with this one.

Thanks guys.

Any ideas what price should I aim at realistically/how much can it be dropped?

Also what should I ask dealer about, apart from brakes and cambelt?

:)

Bit late i know get avensis lean burn engines go on and on, also do upto 50mpg. I had a y plate corolla 1.4 vvt-i gls burnt oil at stupid rates in the end had the engine replaced due to a problem with all zz engines made from 2000-2002
