HOW DO I USE BODY FILLER TO TOUCH UP MINOR AREAS OF RUST ON MY GT AE82 AROUND THE FRONT WINDSCREEN AND ON THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WING?

HELP PLEASE

you may as well not bother - you're covering up the problem, not solving it. give it 6 months and it will loom worse than when you started

Dont bodge an AE82, go buy a mk3/4 Escort if you wanna do that!

Unfortunately bad corosion can only be rectified arround the Windscreen/windows with a bit o bodgery. The only other alternative would be major work by removing the screen and welding in repair sections; a repair such as this would be very time consuming, the vehicle would be off road and costs if being done by a specialist would probably exceed value of car.

So what I would do is carefully remove most of the rusty bits of the 'hole' by your windscreen and then treat with an antirust paint (try not to get on window rubber) after this has dryed slap some filler in hole (if hole is bigger than a 50p size bridge it with a bit of mesh ...don't go using a fibreglass matting kit as it will harm the window rubber). Afterwards carefully sand down filler (I say carefully as try not to scratch the windscreen rubber to much), then paint over (if it's just a small area just use a brush).

The same can be applied to your wing depending how big rust/rot damage is. If the wing is very rusty I would consider replacing it as it is totally bolt on but... only if every bolt mounting point is sound, if you think an adjacent area to the wing looks a bit rusty then consider just filling the wing; as you could make yourself extra trouble.

I realise some people will say how you should replace this, that and t'other but at the end of the day we don't all have 'super workshops' etc. to fully strip a car down; not only that some of us cannot 'take a vehicle of the road' as we need it to get to work!

To be honest, he only ever posts crap like this, or asks if someone is selling an AE82, or tells everyone how "mint" whichever particular AE82 he owns at the time is. it wouldn't surprise me if the whole car is nowt but filler

JT: Sorry about that I did not realise  (I notice it's about an '82' yet his profile states he has a '92') as I've not been so active on here of late.

Also hope none of you minded me recomending 'quick fix' methods as I though it was a case of he just wanted to give his vehicle a quick tidy up.

P.S. Glad you've kept your AE82GT
