Lol what is wrong with you people  :P Just give it a normal cat name for gods sake! Otherwise when it goes to cat school, all the other kittens will take the mick! Plus (on a more serious note) you will feel like a complete wally going round your garden calling stupid cat names ... perhaps with your hugely attractive next door neighbour looking at you funny ... perhaps :P

I had my cat since i was young-er (makes the next bit acceptable) so i called my cat flower :P Thats because in "bambi" (don't pretend you ain't seen it you big bunch of softies) the skunk (i think?) says "You can call me flower if you want to, that's ok" So...i did :) But she's a cat, not a skunk....i was young!

I'd quite happily call "Kefira" - I like that one so much, its going on my list for my next one!

Thats why I called mine normal people names, less embarassing that shouting "Fanny Bubbles" or something to that effect....:lol:

Call it ....... 'Oi'

You won't look stupid then when shouting it's name out ;) !

Do cats actually respond to their names? It's not like they are going to fetch your paper for you is it

I would just call it 'the cat'

Cats do respond to names, but can only understand one or two syllables at a time, so "Princess Boo Boo Shuttlecock" probably won't respond....

But you can teach a cat anything - mine sit, fetch, stay, Alfie even gets the post for me, except he then chews it up.... Alfie's more willing to do the above than Jess, but even she does as she's told....

Plus cats dont smell like dogs, make you pick up there waste, dont slobber all over a toy when you play with it with them and dont bark annoyingly loud at squirrels etc in your garden at like 2 in morning!

How do you un-train the cat, ie. Not wait at the dining room table when I am eating. Land lady is gonna kick off.

You teach it to understand the word "No"

Cats are like children, you dont mollycoddle them, you give them simple phrases... so they know that "No" means no and if they're good, they get fuss and attention....

Dont give them fuss and attention when they're naughty, just tell them "No", they soon learn and when you say No, they wont do what they're doing....

Cats pick things up incredibly quickly, so bad habits are easy to quash

does that include 18 yr old cats? so kicking (without force) was wrong?

Yeah, I'd reckon so....

An 18 year old cat is the equivalent of a 78 year old human being.... even a 78 year old can be taught something.... but I'm sure if you kicked a 78 year old, you'd be prosecuted for it.....

We've always given our cats normal names, examples are:

Karl (with a K)

Colin - Son of Karl (that was his full title, we usually just called him Colin)

Vanessa

Our current cats are Archiebald and Ernest.

I'd give it a name like Thora or Hilda.

baby stop gap?

No... cats are far better.

Nah. A cat can't say "Daddy" or "Mummy" and a cat definately won't "Beer" you when it's older.

I can leave a cat at home on it's own on a Friday and Saturday night and I won't get locked up! Cats 2 - Kids 0

Smidge

is it male or female? :P

That was the first name that came to my mind as soon as I saw the photo even before I saw your post -- it was the nose marking that was a bit of a smeary smudge.

Who's a good Smidgey then!
