1999 Avensis Wheel Wobble

I am getting front wheel wobble on my 1999 Avensis estate. 82000 miles. I have fitted new discs and pads, the tracking has been done a Toyota dealers and the wobble is still there. I have swopped same side front and rear tyres. Tyres have been balenced . Same problem. It starts at 67 MPH and dissapears at 75. I read some where on this site that the Avensis is touchy about tyes. Is this the problem or is there a common ball joint/bush wear problem? some one can tell me about.

I had exactly the same problem with my recently aqquired 99 Avensis. I changed the discs and pads as I expected to when I bought it as they were badly buckled. I used a local garage out of convenience to balance the wheels, they balanced the wheels but no joy, moved the wheels around but still no joy. So I decided to use my regular tyre place that I have used for quite a while now, they put it on the ramp and spun the wheels, it didnt take a specialist too see the tyres were well out of shape and worn unevenly even though there was a good 5mm of tread on them. I had the tracking done as it was slightly out and four new tyres ( A real Gutter :crybaby: replacing tyres with good tread) but it completely cured the problem, as smooth as a really smooth thing now, no wobble at any speed.

 Thanks for replys. I will try to find a local tyre place that does the Haweka Lug Adapter balencing and let you know if its a cure. The symptoms feel like balencing!. Great site its helped no end with other problems.

 Went to local Protyre this morning and had the front tyres balenced on machine with lug adapters. Massive improvement Only the faintest hint of wobble. This on part worn tyres. I can definately live with that. I will buy tyres from them next time and get the balencing done the same way.

Guys it is so reassuring to hear other people have experienced the same problem as me. All sounds very familiar, 99 Avensis, wobbles between 68 and 75, just had new Toyota discs & pads, wheels balanced approx 5 times, tried swopping fronts & backs and still no improvement. Toyotally cheesed off at present, but hey you've given me a ray of hope with this lug adaptor business. I've located a Protyre depot near me and hope to try it this week. Jeepers I hope it cures the problem as it is totally ruining my enjoyment of an otherwise super car. So long has this problem being going on that I want to go on to say 'what can I try if it doesn't work' but I guess that is being negative, lets hope the lugs do the bizzo. Its just such a wind-up when you get a problem like this ain't it? I mean its not life threatening or anything but each time you get to get in your motor your heart sinks a little and you think 'oh yea - the wheels are gonna wobble again aren't they'. And all the guys at the tyre places think you're a nutter cos' you keep going back, and your missus keeps telling you you should get a life and.... well I guess you guys understand huh? :( java script:emoticon(':(', 'smid_1')

Yippee!! The lugs did the job! If you get front wheel wobble, try this first! Go to Protyre or another professional outfit and ask them to balance your wheels with lug adaptors on the machine, NOT a cone adaptor. Happy motoring all.
