Supra Glass Lights..

The JDM MK4 supras has plastic lenses (as you have discovered ;)) they oxidise with age to give that nasty yellowy cloudy look (same with the soarers). if you can find someone breaking a IK spec supra, they all had glass fronts as std.... as for prices.. depends on the scrappy!!!!

WE had 2 tricks with the Soarers, the first was use a very fine abrasive polish or finishing rubbing compound (can I stress how fine it must be so it does not fog the lens!!! we found buffing with MER did the trick, but didn't last)

the other option is a strong solvent that actually disolves the oxide layer... I'd have to look up which one it was.. as obviously anything too strong will melt ya lights!!!!!

A man that I know knows is Called Iaan.. off the now deseased LSOC forums.. often posts under the personoa Mycroft. (note personoa not alias ;))

I'll see what I can find out for ya ;)

I like the idea of getting lights from breakers.. will they fit straight on.. my car is the same model as Supragals.. whatever that is (four, i think!????).

Is there any issue with wiring or anything like dat??

I'm having the same issue with mine... figured I'd be able to clean it off but haven't tried yet- unbelievable!

Karma- if you remember the substance let me know... I'm not keen on forking out for new lens but they can't stay how they are :(

Pilgrim, no wiring involved at all!!! take put the bulbs in their bulb holder thingies and the whole unit unscrews and lifts out!!!! admire the about of crap that has accumulated under it.. asn replace with new shiney one!!!, the UK spec glass covers don;t tarnish with age.

I'll look into it.. I knows is a very specific solvent!!!

MAN! I checked mine last night and they're plastic too :ffs: Hmm. Might just lose the lens and go for some kinda conversion...

Lemme know how you get on with the scrappys mate as I think I'd rather stick to original lights!

Yeah, the glass ones make the car look like new, probably worth buying some new ones just for the shinyness!

What options are there on the conversion side of things? anyone ever seen anything interesting?

mimic the shape of the old lens with body coloured fibreglass... cut in some alfa spyder lights

if you just take the covers off they will not be sealed at all.

or go oldskool and put flap ups on!!! would look like the std lights painted over when down... then they flap up...

uk and jap bits are interchanganble :)

I know there are some exceptions (steering wheel boss for example) so was worried bout it... just wondered if anyone with a MK4 had physically swapped jap headlights for uk ones...small chance i guess!!

cheers bud :)

Pilgrim- will do!

Steve... really? Very confident about that?? lol
