I drove a T180 Avensis that had been chipped to 225BHP. It was just unbelievable. I don't think it had any benefit in fuel but equally it didn't have any negative effect when driven normally. The only problem is that you grow horns and thrash it all over the place which does badly effect fuel consumption. I think it was nearer £400 to buy and that was fit it yourself.

I would only buy from a known supplier that I could get at if something goes wrong. That is one case where I would not buy from eBay.

I also don't know what the long term effects might be. Will the extra torque eventually damage the engine or transmission? If you pile it into another car (even if it's not your fault) and the Insurance Company or Cops find it chipped what are the implications?

Hi,

I have something similar...its more of a tuning box- i bought it of eBay a few months back for my vw transporter van......it boots ur bhp and torque and the results are amazing, the turbo boost i get sometimes hurts my neck when the turbo kicks in.... it kills ur fuel consumtion though....but worth it when your at a set of lights and you know youve got that extra power if needed :D -This is something similar to what i have got, its easy to fit just clips in.

I would suggest this is a VERY bad idea.

These cheap units just put a bias into the fuel control signal so you are overfuelling. Bad for the engine and I wonder what the emissions will look like at MOT time?

Go for a proper ECU re-chip or leave it alone!
