Well they said he is showing improvement this morning, glad to hear it.

Im sure when is is back up on his feet and better that his wife will put a stop to all these daredevil stunts

All the best Hammers

Thoughts are with him and his family.

Someone who works at the hospital posted this on another forum:

work at the Trust but am obviously unable to give any information which has not been cleared by his family. If I get the chance I will pass on all your best wishes. This however was released five minutes ago:

MEDIA STATEMENT – Richard Hammond

A spokesman for the Trust said:

“There has been some improvement overnight but Richard remains in a serious but stable condition. At the request of his family we are not able to give any more information at this stage.”

Ends

I was shocked to hear the story last night :( . After all, Hammond is the reason why I'm here as the Aygo football is the main reason why I have a Toyota.

Get well soon Richard.

in light of the situation just thought id make a post saying that i hope he gets well soon.

im a regular viewer of top gear and just hope he can get back to laugh about it asap, it wont be the same without him!

The last i heard is that he could feel pain in his back which is a good sign that he is not paralised in his back.

Hope he's ok! :crybaby:

Glad to hear he is now stable (rather than serious but stable) and has been moved to high dependancy and off intensive care.

Fingers crossed he is able to make a full recovery - but the suggestion of "serious brain injury" certainly don't sound good.

Thoughts definately go out to his family. But I bet James May is pretty cut up about it, as he was actually supposed to do the stunt instead.

Captain Slow in a car like that - are you sure??

I'd heard that too but just as a rumour, haven't heard anything official

If our Joe can do it, Hammond can

Wish him a full recovery tho, gotta love the banter between the three of them, wouldnt be quite the same otherwise

Thoughts go out to his family. As an experienced individual in this sort of accident, all I can say is at least he was wearing a crash helmet!!

Don't understand why he was taken to Leeds from Elvington, surely Hull is closer?

All the best to the little fella. If he could see me now then he'd know there's plenty of hope

One small step for Hammond, one giant leap for his recovery!

Depite the fact he couldn't rememeber why he was in hospital then decided to get up for the toilet.

Maybe you should go visit him Joe, give him an "I can do it, so you can do it" pep talk... :)

And I think it was Leeds because it has a specialist neurological department and he had bad head injuries

Hi, Joe's the name. Just popped to see how the Hamster is. I don't think they'd let me in do you!! :P

Hull has one of the best neurosurgical departments in the country. I know, I was there and I too had a serious head injury

See......................

That's when I finally saved up and got the brain

I'm encouraged by the progress he's made so far, I don't like the whole "serious brain injury" but he seems to have made good progress so soon after the accident, let's hope it continues. Their main worry is his memory atm, hopefully it wont be an issue & he'll make a full recovery

Yep, its a good sign he's walking and talking...

Although since the accident, the BBC have postponed the new series of Top Gear, which was due to start 8th October and Jeremy Clarkson is apparently having to fight to stop them cancelling TG for good... :o

I imagine the road safety groups are relishing the fact that someone on Top Gear has had a serious accident (you can almost hear the cries of "we told you so") and are kicking off about the fact that speed is bad and rallying to take Top Gear off the telly.

Top Gear is a great programme for what it is, it shouldn't be tamed and it definitely shouldnt be taken off air!

Well its good to see him getting better. Also you seen what the pistonheads set up? totally awesome in the donations to the rescue helicopters. Last time i looked it was over £120,000 . See those choppers are not run by the NHS they are done through charity. Get yer money out peeps...you never know when you or a member of your family will need one.

Both Crisis and Tom.B have provided the link to the air ambulance appeal. Just given myself after being away for the weekend and thought I'd give this thread a bump.

Any chance of it being made a sticky for the time being please?
