Ok, so I'm on the way back from visiting my car last night, M25 9.30pm ish aproaching jct 9 northbound, doing 75(ish!) and I hear this...er....noise...exhaust noise, before I've even had time to think and look in my mirror a 300zx and some "performance" ford (escort cossie I think) shot past me like I was stood still....seriously they must have been doing a ton 50 at LEAST, escort was right on the 300s :censor: too.

This bugs me because a ) when will they realise they're gonna kill someone one day, and b ) people get points for 34 in a 30 limit- so where were the cops then eh?!?!? hmmmm??!?!?!? grrrr :ffs:

**OOPS meant to put this in general discussions- and chance of it being moved?? ***

TOPIC MOVED – CARL

:ffs: yeah.. that winds me up too...

You see them driving like lunatics, and seem to get away with it... and other people get 3 points and 60 quid for being 'just' over the limit!

Don’t get me wrong, but every now again it fun to have a little “tear up” maybe a little drag up a slip road or a little dual on a straight bit of road. I have had a few with Civic Type – R’s and Focus RS’s and it a good laugh. But 150MPH down the M25 is a tad silly to be honest if anyone pulls out if front of you I promise you won’t be polishing out the damage.

I reckon the only thing you would be polishing would be a halo. The other guys would have gone to the other place where they would have to spend eternity driving a diesel Corsa

I wonder if they where stupid enough to keep going at 150 past the next junction. hhmm variable speed limit might have got them fingers crossed....hehe

150 is a bit of a :censor: take. having the odd tear up is not too bad, but the odd tear up at over double the speed limit. !Removed! hell, what a pair of :censor:

Ironic ain't it.

Most of the time you can't move past 30 on the M25, then when you can cruise at a respectable speed (70) some T :censor: s tear past at twice that.

If you own a fast car isn't it enough to feel secure in the knowledge that it is powerful without feeling the urge to tell the world you have a small :censor: . Don't the authorities ever monitor all those traffic cameras for lunatics........

not on the m25 mate. they have to display the cameras so you can see em. theres a club that see if they can get their cars over 2 ton on the m25, there was a program about them on the TV. guy in a skyline was doing about 205 mph. crazy

Get the lynch mob out, someones speeding, :ffs: come on guys, you lot never broke the limit??

Speeding in a 30 limit is far more stupid then speeding on a motorway.

They might have been a right couple of muppets but SG's left out whether the road was busy or quiet.

Ahem...

No... I never speed in a 30 zone... or a 40....

But c'mon, you have to agree, 150mph on UK roads is dangerous... especially since the Ford was tailgaiting...

You have a good point nws.

BUT there is speeding and then there is SPEEDING......And tailgating when SPEEDING as SG said they were doing.

We've all (probably) gone too fast but doesn't mean we can't have a good ol' whinge about others doing it.

i openly admit i drive fast. not super fast though. 40 in a 30 is about as much as id push it. on a slow road. and a iadmit i drive at a 90-ton on m way journeys. but ton50 is a :censor: take mate. surly you can see that. uk roads aint the safest. inagine hitting a bump at that speed, youd literally take off. im not moaning about it. im just agreeing its stupid

I must admit i,ve done the odd 125 in my area, but even then my botty was twitching, not because of the speed, but mainly the fear of plod requesting the use of my license for an unhealthy period of time, so anybody doing 150 in that area, has more money than sense or no license, tax, insurance etc. :censor:

Sorry, sorry, just realised there was a Ford involved, how the :censor: did it stay together at that speed :D

Speeding is always gonna throw up lots of different points of views, and there will never be a right or wrong. :group-cuddles:

i'm very good at sticking close to the limits on 30 and 40mph roads but during the day on a motorway i'll do 80-130. 130 is when there's a nice clear gap. have had it above 150 a few times but that was when the roads were clear. i admit i speed and on a motorway i think if it's clear it isn't that bad.

speeders get treated worse than burglars for ***** sake, the coppers are a bunch of money grabbing muppets who have nothing better to do than prosecute people going a couple of mile an hour over 30. in germany you can go as fast as you like on the autobahns.

lets face it how many people actualy stick religiously to the speed limit? so speeding no matter how fast does not kill or cause accidents. its the inappropriate use of speed that does that. one car on an emptyish road doing 150mph isnt that dangerous. the guy speeding should be more alert looking further ahead. people should, before changing lanes, use their mirrors and take note of the speed of any approatching cars before doing so. how many times (even when you are doing the limit) has some one pulled out on you without looking. remember what the highway code teaches "mirror, signal manouver"

however tailgating at speed is highly stupid

im not saying i agree with speeding. just putting the point accross that people cant drive around thinking " oh i can drive how i like cos everyone else should look out for me"

drivers should expect the unexpected is around every bend. that goes for speeders and "holier than thou" motorists

My opinion of the matter is probably not valued but i'll post it anyway.

speed limits are set for a reason, the reason being safety. However there is a rush/buzz or whatever you want to call it which is gained from speeding, in that you're playing with your license and money (similar to gambling in that respect - people do it for the thrill). **Before anyone posts in a blind rage about this comment, I am not condoning speeding. Thankyou**

What i'm trying to say is I personally believe the Motorway limits should be adjusted with the varying road conditions. Night time for example, clear lanes, road surface etc etc. At the end of the day it's the guy/girl behind the wheel who is taking liberties with their own (and others) lives, some people care less than others.

Speeding has always occurred, always will.

Can I just make the point about 30's and 40's that certain areas like schools, play parks, kids on bikes, kids on pavement/road side all deserve extra care and attention, but as VTRick says doing 40 in a 30 is acceptable (in my opinion) if the conditions allow, tailing off to a national for example, or when there's no pedestrians, cyclists, etc etc etc

Gordy makes a good point about 'Speeding.. and SPEEDING' and I agree with that.

There's a million arguments on this subject and we'll never all agree on the same things, so let's just be done with it and accept that some people will speed (sometimes recklessly), and other people will drive to the limit, 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

I dont like to speed at all (because im soooooooo afraid of getting caught), in my last few cars i was a very religious driver.

But since i have had the power i seem to use it all the time without even knowing it.

Also i know it sounds petty but i seem to drive faster to frighten boy racers and put them in their place. Its strange but i guess a lot of people are the same, once you get behind the wheel of your own performance baby you change into a high revving speed freak.

Many a time have i intentionally gone out of my way to put Cossies, Saxos, Golf's etc to shame. And after you have left them in your rear mirrors horison you look down and think :censor: im doing over 150!

I guess performance cars are a very effective way of loosing your licence.

I like most people do try to control myself but lets face it, we are too tempted. Because we got it we use it.

On a lighter note, god bless the Snooper. What an amazing invention it is too.

Bring in graduated licenses. I don't think it would be wise to open the limit up to everyone. Build us three fast lanes with the new 12 lanes planned either side of the M25.

nah - don't agree with that one.

until the majority of the drivers today are actually capable of driving on a motorway - then the limits need to stay.

this comes from someone who does a lot of motorway driving, and can honestly say that on practically each journey, some :censor: has tried to kill me.

it is genuinely scary the people who are on the roads, and the state of the vehicles they are doing 70mph+ in.

true matt, it will take 50 years to change the motorway driving habits even if the driving test included motorway testing tomorrow, the amount of people who are on the road from years ago when all that was required to pass ur test was driving down a back street...

licences either need to be reviewed (too expensive, will never happen) or we'll just have to wait until motorway driving progressively becomes improved through the introduction of training in the driving test

I believe speed limits shoud vary according to road conditions.

I can never understand how car parks for example can have speed limits as low as 5 or 10 mph, but outside most schools the limit is still 20 (in some cases) or 30.

I normally drive motorways with cruise control on at 70mph. Its just when another Supra passes me, I get tempted to travel with them for a while.

Unfortunately this happened last week, and he happened to be doing 100+.

Followed him for about 5 miles, then had this uneasy feeling, so I slowed down to 70 again.

2 minutes later I noticed a police helicopter forward and to the right of my vehicle. He then proceeded to travel parallel to me for about half a mile (was he taking a picture to identify me as the driver??)

Problem is I don't know if he had been following me prior to me slowing down, or whether I had just arrived in the area he was patrolling.

Hope he hadn't been following me, I will know in the next 7 days, as by then they will have had to have issued the NIP.

I hope I don't have to hang the keys up for a while!

Let him who have not sinned cast the first stone!

I would have to admit that having a little tear up now and again, is exciting, i like to see what cars i can keep up with. or possibly beat.

But i would only do this when i thought it was safe to do so without endagering others.

I only hope that the 300ZX won!
