Please help ive just purchased a 1990 import mr2 mk2. I was looking for a GT uk model but stumbled upon a beautifull black import in excellent condition and after driving couldnt resist buying it at a decent price.

What i want to know is what bhp is the import its 2.0L ? and has it benefits or not over the uk version?

Just so i know what the score is.

Cheers

That year, could be two engines

3S-FE, 119bhp - highly unlikely (had no spoiler as standard) or

3S-GE Engine, producing 158bhp

Import extras - depends on the model really, generally

AirCon/CLimate Control

Cruise control (on later models only I think)

ABS brakes more often seen fitted

PAS more often fitted

Sometimes.......

with folding mirrors

Steering front fogs

Lower milage vehicles

um.....

I would image £2000 - £2900 somewhere around there.....

The guy was asking 2300 with 80,000miles on the clock black in colour, it seems clean enough with a good clean sound from the engine. Has the spoiler too.

It has a cd player and tape standard, A/c , Folding mirrors.

12 months mot no tax i paid 1,900,

Mostly due to a grinding into 2nd gear from first.

But performance wise i was quite stunned at the speed and handling, awesome.

So 158bhp sounds good to me.

What model could it be?

I have a 1990 GT Turbo T-Bar ....

With all the gadgets you can think of and also only 30,600 miles on it. << now that's low mileage !!

My MR2 should be around the 225bhp mark if I'm not mistaken

I got it imported this month... it's so much fun !

Just out of curiousity... how much do you think I should have paid for it ? ( jappy beast not aloud to answer cos you know ! )

It will be the G-ltd.. same as mine.

In my opinion the imports are better than UK spec.

Is it a Tin top, sunroof or T-Bar?

Well I paid £2900 for a 1990 UK spec GT 158bhp with 100,000miles in v good condition.

Starting to think I could have got it cheaper, but I'll know better when I buy a turbo in a couple of years.

TBH these cars are available for a wide range of prices, depending on milage, condition etc. I bought my Turbo (1993) five years ago, with 15,000 miles on the clock, but it cost me £8250 which was the going rate then, the cars were very popular and had only recently arrived in the country. It's probably worth around £3000 - £4000 now, which is why I'm keeping it forever :).

I paid £2600 for mine last Sept which was cheap. I think I could get over £3k for mine now looking at some of the examples on auto trader.

Thing is with Mk2's they seem to hold their value now that the second hand car market had dropped to rock bottom. If I keep looking after mine.. I'm sure it will be worth the same for years to come... well until the Mk3 costs £4 - 5k

...It got keyed within a week! :ffs:

But i still love my car :D Needs some work to it now.. New clutch for starters.
