Finally Got Myself A New Car

Should hopefully be picking it up 2moz.

Would have picked it up today, but my insurance cover note didn't arrive in this morning's post, so it's not taxed yet.

The car in question is.... *Drum roll...*

A Vauxhall Vectra 2.5i V6 SRi.

I can already hear the screams of horror... :D

Still, out of 13 or more cars I looked at - funnily enough, no Toyota's, it was easily the best example and price.

Nice big 4 door saloon, and a boot size that will please Mumma Gnome.

It's a '97 model, so has a few marks, and there's a small chunk taken out the driver's seat, but otherwise it's very clean. Only 52k, and FSH.

First jobs on the list are a new cambelt kit and full service.

Don't worry though - you'll need get rid of me that easy... :yahoo: ;)

Lol - what were you expecting?

I've only got as far as a good test drive in it. Did about 5 miles or more, and it was very easy to drive. Comfy, and "nippy" shall we say. ;)

Hopefully picking her up 2moz.

Not bad insurance either - £140 more than the Yaris, which bearing in mind this is a group 15 car, is not all that bad.

The bizarre thing is, my mate phoned me up Thursday, the night before I was due to see the Vectra.

Says "Got a new car mate, won't tell you what it is - I'll pop over and show you instead..."

It's the same damned car!

Albeit his is a '99 model, silver and with 147k on the clock.

Still goes like stink though. Well, compared to a 1.0 Yaris at least.

:D

Re: cambelt. Hell yeah. Not attempting it myself. They're delicate enough on these V6 vauxhalls. One every 40k MAX!

Not a new job though - just a pay rise. ;)

nice :D

Vectra's can be hit or miss on build quality - but if its a good one she'll do 200k no worries...

Plus the V6 is a nice engine ;) should be rapid enough :D

congrats!

Yeah, I've been having a look around, and found the Vauxhall Owners Network.

It's got a list of all the possible problems with the Vectra's and the V6 engines.

Some are horrendous problems, but then as you say, it's hit and miss.

There are thousands out there munching miles everday, and some that aren't so fortunate...

Fingers crossed, with proper maintenance, this one becomes a mile-muncher! :D

Still, I've got a 12 month warranty on it from Warranty Direct, which gives full cover and "consequential loss" cover - so if the cambelt went, I'd still be covered, whereas usually, you're not.

According to Parker's/ Vauxhall, 167bhp.

According to V6 owners on the Vauxhall Owners Club, 150bhp at the wheels.

Not bad really.

Dont you think they sound like 'pod racers' of star wars when revved!!????

Loved my V6 and considering its a few ponies short of my GT it was alot more fun to drive due to the torque!

Is one of the lugs black? Or is it missing one?

Don't worry - they're wheel nut covers, not the nuts themselves. ;)

Dave - I'm gonna slam it, ride it on 17's, and beef up the stereo baby! :D :P

Vauxhall Customer Service? Who says I'll be touching them with my barge poll?
