Transponder Key

I've had a keyring with a Corolla (2000) key stolen. We have a spare, but are worried about the car being stolen. I have asked various dealers whether the stolen key can be disabled; most say no, but one or two have said yes (but didn't sound too sure). Does anybody know for sure?

Is the only other alternative to replace all the locks and ecu? I think that will cost around £1000.
