Corolla 1.9d Has Peugeot Engine

Hi

I just bought a second hand Corolla 1.9 diesel and jus found out the engine is a Peugeot. Apparently they did a run of engines for Toyota around the time (2000). I was wondering if that's any cause for concern?

Also the place I bought it from fitted a new cam belt for me, but then the engine management light started coming on. So I took it back (3 month guarantee). They sent the car to the local Toyota centre who said the fault was probably that the cam belt wasn't quite fitted properly. The company are in the process of sorting the problem.

But could this damage the engine - driving the car with the cam belt not being fitted quite right?
