18302 Radio/tape/cd Pinout

Hi,

I'm a new member with a Granvia. The existing 55818 radio is crap on UK bands so have picked up a double din 18302 from a UK Rav4 on eBay.

Only problem the 18302 as two extra sockets (top row) an 18 pin and 8 pin which provide power and connections to everything on front panel and possibly satnav.

I've got the pinouts for the bottom row - 12 pin CD, 10 pin + 6pin power mute and Speakers etc, which as far as I can determine apart from 12 pin CD are identical to the current radio wiring.

I only want to use the radio and add the 6 stack CD on the 18302

Can anyone help please?

Hi

If you don't have the data type electrics in your car you are not going to get it to work.

The big socket at the top is the Tx - Rx connection for the data line.

I had a similar idea for my older 98 celica, had older style ICE, wanted to add sat nav, but its different technology.

There is really no way around this, apart from going down the after market route with the toyota to DIN converter for your plugs, if you already have CD changer, you are in trouble again, without *****ising the wiring loom --- not recommended.

Try upgrading your Speakers first or get hold of an older higher spec unit from a GT4 or supra with the premium system.

Hope this helps

Hi,

Thanks for your comments, have cracked it now. Managed to get a pinout diagram then linked several pins on the 18 pin plug (Batt, Ign, Gnd & ILL) to the incoming loom, linked TX+ and TX- on the top 18 pin plug to the TX+ and TX- on the 12 pin CD changer plug and hey presto the radio works fine.

Only problem now is the radio is too wide for the slot in the Granvia! Never reaised this until I came to fit it this morning. Even if I cut the surround its still too wide. The 18302 will have to go back on eBay, unless someone out there is interested?

Hi MossMan,

I know it was a while ago for you but I am in the exact same boat. I have got the 18302 and trying to fit it into a Proton.

I need the pin outs of the 18 pin connector so I can bridge the wires like you did to get it running without the rest of the Toyota loom.

I would be very greatful if you could point me in the right direction for that diagram. Thanks a lot.
