Mods?

I've got myself hooked up with Toyota insurance... Only problem is I have to leave my car with no mods... I'm gonna ask them soon in this applies to cosmetic mods and so on..

Anyway, are there any mods that will boost performance/reliability/life exp.. etc? That my insurance company won't detect if the worst may occur?

Hi NZMR2

Well only if you are going to do engine mods. Like race cams Re-bore the pistons to make a bigger engine cc. Things like that. Well i suppose you will get away with engine mods like that as they wont now unless they do a full search.

If push comes to shove and in worse case scenario they have to inspect your car for whatever reason - THEY WILL find a mod. Remember if they can use something to get out of paying up then they can and often WILL.

The only 'mod' that the insurance company will never find is professional driving tuition. Learn to get the most from your current car...

Okay, heres the deal.

If you modify your car in anyway (including sticking Tsport badges on a SR) you have to declare this to your insurance company. Some, will not increase the premium for certain things (like tints or cosmetic), but you still have to declare it.

If you fail to declare it, and you have to make a claim (either theft or accident), the insurance company will have to view the car in order to process the claim. If they see a modification (and remember, these are highly experience mechanics), then the insurance company will declare your policy null and void.

What this means is...... you were driving without insurance, and your insurance company could inform the police, and you could be prosecuted for driving without insurance.

They have them on www.mrtwo.co.uk second hand for £340.75. Have a look and be quick as they seem to go.

Theres another place that sells them brand new for 700 euros as well but can't remeber where :( Its the same place where they sell the undercar mudflap thingy that stablise the car over 80mph.

Hope that helps

her'es one for you....ive just put a complete new engine in the old bird.......exactly the same engine as was in before.......not uprated or changed at all.........and i still had to inform the insurance cus the engine number is different........figgits is one hundred percent correct....

if you change it..........inform the insurance its not worth not doing......it will be you thats crying when you bang it.

Ok in that case I'll just start with cosmetoc mods and check everything with the company before I do it. I don't wanna not be covered by insurance in case I ding her.

When I want to start engine mods and so on I'll change insurance.

i just wanna add that if any body buys a used car... make sure you take apicture of it and give it to your insurance company or they will take off full coverage w/o even telling you. I dont know if thats something everybody knows but i didnt and i learned it the hard way. It might not apply to everyone just givin a heads up. Peace B)

If you have a MR2 go with Dorset Insurance. You can do anything to your car with no premium increase... well apart from nos...

Think he might be in NZ. ;)

Plus even in the UK companies like Liverpool Victproa give much better rates and also do not care about mods or points...

Dorset wanted 890 for me LV wanted 640

  • 3 months later...

NZMR2 tis i Lvn_MR2 from levin. i also with toyota insurance, my car was a standard 1989 mk1 auto. i did a huge stereo install in car and insurance didnt care, when the tail pipe and cat rusted out on my car i put a piece of pipe inplace of the cat and the cheapest tail pipe on i could find "muhaha a 5 inch tip with 3 inch pipe" with a huge coby along the back...told toyota and they didnt care. when i took my old 84 in for a wof at toyota the other month they never picked up on the real DIY job of a turbo.....but i put a huge cover underneath it. so all in all toyota seem to skip alot of things out here :arrgg-matey:

I WAS with them as well.....my Gen III had a cat-back exhaust on it when I 1st got it but I never told them.....got thinking and decided to tell them when I got my ebc and intake done, they said ANY performance mod (ANYTHING that increase's performance)and they WOULDN'T cover me. IF you do something in that area and don't tell them and you have a major...they will employe and investigator if they have ANY reason to think it has mods....they would rarther spend 5K on an investigation than pay out on your car. I cancelled and went elsewhere. I now pay CHEAPER and have ALL my mods decleared. With them if yourvisual + stereo mods get up high in value they will either charge more or say sorry no thanks to your insurance.

Cheers
