Can't afford that.

Do any of you great guys and girls know of anywhere that I can get one cheaper.

Second hand or new.

Cheers!!!!!!!

Dear All,

I too have a Oxygen Sensor requirement and the 300 squid had me running out of the Toyota dealers fast.. at 128k we take our time spending money on this old workhorse.

Any tips on where to get a cheaper alternative would be much appreciated.

Mines a 1.6s GS Carina E also.

Thanks,

David

P.S. have ya seen what some people do to these nice Toyotas?

Just get one from a breakers, any from a 4AGE, 4AFE or 7AFE will do. Just make sure its not been dropped or it will be a goner.

I paid £20 for one at a breakers - dont get ripped.

Hang on a mo......jo.......

4AFE stands for 1600c lean burn injection.

The 4AFE Lean burn Lambda costs £300 p/n:XLOS321.

The none lean burn one costs £43 p/n: XLOS307.

Both are 4 wire.

I'll ask dealer if they will tell me what happens if you put the non-lean sensor into a lean-burn engine.

4AFE Lambda Oxygen sensor for '95 Carina is proving elusive...

Any one know a breaker with one on the shelf?

I wouldn't mind but my Carina is still running fine..

Maybe I should just take it out an clean it?

Where is the oxygen sensor? Pictures/diagrams anyone?

I'm not embarrassed... I only started looking under the bonnet at 100k. Now my aim is 200K!

Thanks in advance,

D

Just went to breakers for "new" tyres.... and asked AGAIN about Oxygen sensor for 1600 Carina & if it might be in Corollas (as in yard).... I was told no!

BUT I wondered if the breaker was ignorant!

SO does anyone know if the 4AFE engine is unique to the Carina?

I am still unsure of the 4AGE & 7AFE engines.. as these are mentioned in this post and their Oxygen sensors might be useable.

This would mean I could widen my search to include O2's from ..Celicias and Corollas?

Many thanks and I'll get under the beast and have a look at the old sensor.

The 4AFE and 7AFE were also fitted to Corolla's. Ask ae111sr for a oxy sensor. Hes just fitted a new 4AGZE engine and has removed his 4AFE engine. He should have a sensor knocking around. Tell him I told you.

The Oxy Sensor is clearly visable with the bonnet open, it is bolted into the manifold.

Thanks for advice re:Oxygen sensor...opened the bonnet and thier it was nestling beside the trusty 4AFE!

I'll try & contact ae111sr for his oxy sensor.. mind you ya' didnae tell me even if it is cleaned /replaced the warning light won't go out until it's hooked up to a computer-y thingy! see htese mechanics the do know stuff...

Sadly now the Sensor is part TWO.. PART ONE... new exhaust..

the search widens...

 dread to think what Toyota want for a knew system..

thnks

D

Bosch Universal Lambda sensor - LS06 - cost £42 inc VAT...

I dropped in to VERY FRIENDLY car parts shop in Dalkeith...

... doesn't compute esp. as just visited two other "League of Gentlemen" type LOCAL stores in said town..

I asked about Oxygen sensor for 95 Carina and was shown what looks like a similar part...

ANYONE had nay experience of the Bosch LS06?

Sorry to keep hassling but this could be the part... and it's cheaper than the tank of gas needed to check out a 2nd hand part in Glasgow?

thnx

  • 3 months later...

Hello All happy toyota owners,

The Oxygen Sensor for Carina E proves to be still more elusive.

AND my MOT's on the 19th.

I have scoured the yards (via yellow pages ) and the web for a 2nd hand sensor for my 1600 carina.

The ONLY option currently open to me is...

a 2nd hand one (p/n:XLOS321) at £125 plus VAT & Del. (30 days warranty)

OR a genuine Toyota part with 1year warranty @ £249.20 plus VAT

HAS ANYBODY got a lambda sensor (lean burn) at a sensible price ?

Border Toyota, Melrose, told me that their are 4 lambda sensor versions available for my 1600 GS 4AFE engine so trying to get a match from a yard is unlikely .. so I am tempted to go with the £250 price. Darn shame though.

My existing Lambda sensor is a 4 wire (2 black, 1 blue and 1 white)

ANY HELP esp. if the 4 versions is true

thanks

D

P.S. I luv my Carina (133k) please help keep it on the road :)

dgo_carina the reason the oxy sensor for a leanburn costs more than the none lean burn engine is that it has a built in heater to pre heat it. as far as i know the cheaper sensor will not work if your car is leanburn you will have no choice but to fit the right one.

More News re: the lean burn sensor.

I told my friendly mechanic about the trials and tribulations of the 4 Toyota variants of the lambda sensor and he said that he was sure that he could get a lean burn sensor "clone" for £70.

Sure enough in the pricelist is a product for a 4afe 1600 engine titled "lean burn"...

Alls we have to do now is check the sensor connection types..

I will keep you posted..thnaks again

Dear beardie,

As your oxygen sensor is out. What is the part number it should be located on the body of the sensor itself and will begin with the prefix 89465-xxxxx... then i could check we have a 100% match?

thnx

D

P.S. Things got so bad with the 1.6 I had to buy "new" Carina. I found 2.0 Gti for "my wife" :hokus-pokus: ...Yeah right! Woo Hoo! BTW it was a bargain (serious mileage 140k) and top quality Yamaha tweaked 155bhp engine... I'm still pinching meself.. Ooops! loosing it here... need to focus on Oxy sensor.
