Fitting A Rev Counter / Tacho

First, go to a Peugeot Dealer and order these parts.

Rev counter 6105VN

Rev counter screw 6105VK

Rev counter cowling 4131Z5

About £134.00

Your new pod has slot in it like this:-

Turn the steering wheel to the left revealing this screw.

remove it. Turm the wheel to the right and remove the other.

Carefully lift up the old speedo housing cover revealing:-

You will see a small white plug taped to the rest of the wires.

Untape it and push it into this socket on the bottom of the Rev-counter:-

Then, slide the Rev-counter into place like this:-

Fit the bolt and tighten it.

Slide the new speedo cover into place and secure with the two screws.

Job done.

The cowling isn't absolutely neccesary. If you look at the inside of the one you

allready have you can see a line where the fill-piece of the die casting mould sits.

If you cut a slot along that line (with a Dremel or similar) you can save yourself

a couple of pounds.

And should you mess up the cowling trying you can allways order the cowling affter all...

That's how I'm doing it; I just ordered my Rev Counter today :P

I fitted my rev counter this morning :D .

I put the key in the ignition, and turned it, so that it would release the steering lock so that I could access the cowl retaining screws.

I noticed that the time on the clock read 09:38.

I fitted the rev counter, even neatly cable tieing the wires etc.

I turned on the ignition to check that it was working correctly :yahoo: .

I glanced at the clock to see it now read 09:42 :blink:

HOW EASY

If you can open the box the rev counter comes packaged in you can fit a rev counter to an Aygo :thumbsup:

Maybe a daft question - but does fitting a rev counter affect your warranty? Especially if you can't get them from Toyota and have to go to Peugeot.

and how come it is so expensive as an after market fit when, if you spec it from new, it is only £30 at Peugeot/Citroen (although obviously you need to buy a Sport to get it on an Aygo)

Wouldn't have thought it would affect your warranty Graeme C as it is an original part you could get from Toyota. Maybe if the dashboard went you may have problems but can imagine that being pretty rare especially seeing how easy it is to fit.

Paul I guess it's the good old thing of making accessories hideously expensive when fitted after! Think Peugeot are charging £175 to have it fitted!!

I'd expect not. You fitting it has the exact same effect on the car

as it would have when fitted by someone in Toyota cover alls...

And there's nothing you can do wrong either; the plug only fits

in one way, as does the counter atop the speedometer...

Can you fit it on either side as I reckon I would prefer it nearer to the centreline of the car rather than near to the A post - would feel more natural bearing in mind where mine currently are on the Smart

You could fit a rev counter to the other side but you would need to buy a left hand drive item. Infact if you wanted you could have one on either side, and wire them up to work together :D

I thought about buying a left hand drive casing and putting a shift light or temp gauge in it, but i fitted a flexible shiftlight to the edge of the speedo housing instead.

I'd been thinking the exact same, only for my LHD car.

Bu then I found out the cost for a rev counter in the UK

and had to add shipping to it.

So went to my Dealer and ordered a LHD counter.

But they seem to be out of stock in entire Europe,

so I've been waiting for about 2 weeks now...

Hopefully it'll be here next week, as I'm planning on cutting the cowling

this weekend and don't want to drive with a hole in the dash for too long...

also with a shift light

but its a bit bright at night !!! :blink::blink::blink::blink:

LOVE the radio, but the Revcounter isn't to my taste at all...

On top of that, I already have something else sitting there:

Now there's a thought - how about a rev counter on one side and a clock on the other?? I wonder if the clock from a Smart ForTwo is the same size and could be swapped into an Aygo rev counter housing so it all matches up?

I prepped for my rev ubiker today by cutting the hole in the cowling...

I've still got to wait for the actual rev counter to arrive at the dealer,

but by doing the cut now I'd still have time to order a new cowling

if I'd done anything wrong...

top left is the moulding line you have to follow. There's actually two, on one

each side. As my car is LHD, I cut out the left one. The pic is the righ one...

Next to it my first attempt at doing it with my Dremel, It resulted in jagged

edges and there's not really enough room inside to move around the tool...

So I took my trusty collection of hobby knives and started cutting from the inside.

As the plastic is kind of soft it cuts quite well and by just scoring and scoring and

scoring agian and again you finally get through with quite an nice, smooth edge...

And here's the endresult. Let's hope the revcounter arrives at the dealer

soon, so I don't have to drive with a hole in my car for too long...

Then it's just a matter of minutes, as described above...

Here's what the install looks like on a LHD car:

The counter fitted and screwed down on the left and the

plug that's taped to the loom behind the cluster on the right

I found that fitting the upper cowling back was the hardest

part of the install, the rest was just a matter of seconds.

Received a rev counter today from 106parts.com - a little later than expected thanks to Parcelforce, but we'll not go there :censor:

It took about 5 minutes to install and looks excellent.

Nice guide. Ordered myself a rev counter last week. back ordered though so will arrive in a couple of weeks. Looks really easy to fit so hopefully there won't be any glitches! :)

Hi,

I was told by my Toyota dealer that they stopped doing the rev counter becuase it kept on vibrating/shaking too much. Has anyone found this to be the case when they've installed their tachometer?
