Stereo Fitting (gen 6)

Hi Guys. I've finally got around to fitting my stereo from the previous car into the Celica. Now I'm trying to fit the Sub and Amp and I'm stumped as to how to run a power cable from the Battery. On my Escort I ran the cable from the Battery into the passenger footwell then along under the door trims and into the boot but I can't find a similar route on the Celica.

Any suggestions or things to avoid would be greatly appreciated.

Ok. Unscrew the kick panel on the passenger side right in the corner and take off the triangular panel. Take out your glove box. Behind you'll find a rubber grommet which leads to the engine bay. Use a coat hanger to feed the power cable thorough.

Run the power cable along the side. Snap off the door trip (without breaking it) and run the power cable along the rest of the wires you see there.

Rip out the rear seat. Run along the edge ad into the boot. Make sure you put on before you feed the power to the amp.

The earth cable is easy. Just bolt it to the bolt in the middle behind the rear seats.

As for the audio L&R, it should run from the back of the head unit and under the steering console (Some cable ties will be useful to hold the cable up.

Unscrew the kick panel on the driver side right in the corner and take off the triangular panel and again feed the audio cable down the same way as the power cable under the door trim, under the seat and into the boot.

Always remember to have your Battery disconnected and to separate the power with audio to reduce interferences.

Hope it helps.

Hi, thanks for the guidance. Today's the first chance I've had to give it a go. I got the glove box out and then I hit a problem. I can't see a grommet. In the engine bay there's a rubber grommet with a short empty tube hanging off it. We fed the power cable for the amp down it quite a way but couldn't see it coming out in the car. It sounds like it's going into the white box that I've marked with the circle, and there is a tube entering it at roughly the right place.

Having had a look at the wiring diagrams for my car I think the white box is the pump for the AC so I'm guessing that tube is there to allow air to move. As will be obvious by now I don't know much about cars so I don't want to randomly start removing things. I can't believe how difficult it is to run a power cable the length of the car. If there's anyone that's done it please can you give me some suggestions?

when i had my toad alarm fitted into my st205 , the guy drilled a hole through the firewall on the drivers side about 4 inches in , near to where to the bonnet hinge sits.

hope this helps.

Cheers, but I'm a bit worried about drilling any holes in my car. I was hoping I wouldn't have to. If I do what should I do to avoid the cable getting cut by the edges of the hole and to avoid rust?

He used like some kind of counter sunk boring bit on hammer. Left a clean hole , i suppose you could get hold of a rubber grommet and put that in the hole then insert your cable. once all done a dab of clear silicone sealant should hold out any water . the position of the hole isnt a place water gets anyways unless you wash the engine / firewall.
