4d-d T3 To Buy Or Not To Buy?

Hi,

:help: Hoping to buy a Used Yaris 1.4d-d T3, have seen a likely suspect at a local independant dealer and being new to diesels (& Yaris's), would like advice on what to look for when viewing/Test driving the car.

It is a 3Dr 53 plate with 44,000 mile on the clock, service history & 2 previous owners the garage whats £4995, is this a good price? and what should I be aiming to pay.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Damn good price by the sounds of it. Check the clutch pedal isn't making any noise - seems to be a common fault - just had my clutch master cylinder replaced under warranty which is the usual reason for the noise.

65-70mpg on the motorways! Not bad!

Seems a decent price mate.

I'm highly biased, but I think they're fantastic cars. If I were looking for one I would check for odd clunks at startup (anti-roll bar bushes) and any smoke from the exhausts. The Yaris does not smoke. The one other thing is that some of the early 1.4 D-4D engines had head gasket issues. These mainly seemed to effect pre-facelift ones though. Other than that just the usual used-car things really.

Hope that's some sort of help - I've done almost 70k problem-free miles in D-4D Yari...

Alan, can you give me more details about this? Do you mean listen for a clunk when I start the car, or when I pull away?

Cheers

I had a really annoying turbo whistle on my T2 D4D... just as the turbo kicked in at around 1800-2000 for around 500 revs....not like a normal turbo whistle which is progressive and nice... eventually got the turbo changed but the dealer claimed that a fair number of the cars had this annoying "characteristic" and that it was normal.

Its just a clank from the suspension when you start. It seems to take me 40k to knack the front ARB bushes. That's twice now...

Don't stress yourself over it.

Deagle, yours hhas turbo whistle? Better not let you near mine then. It makes what can best be described as "shhhhhllluuurrrppppp grrrRRRRRRR" overlaying the turbo whistle. Of course, that's down to me rather than the car itself...
