Reliablility issues are a bit of a myth tbh. If looked after then can reach 100K miles!

But you do have to look after and pamper them. I was just unlucky with the oil cooler line splitting.

Hey!

Been looking at one of these for a while! Insurance was suprisingly cheap compared to the tubby or evo!

Would you recommend one? Opinions seem so varied on the reliability and frequency/cost of rebuilds I cant make up my mind!

Anyone have any advice?

CB

I'd get one mate... obviously.. lol.

If you do all that, you should be fine. If you were serious in getting one, get one compression tested or one which has had a rebuild at some point. The thing that kills most of them is water seal failure. Overheating in any way kills the seals! I'm gonna get an uprated rad when I put my new engine in, just to be on the safe side in the hot summer months. Don't want to kill me new engine now do I?

Most engines will need rebuilt after 60K miles. But some can last 100K. Most of the time like I said, it's down to water seal failure. If you rebuilt yourself, it wouldn't cost that much if you could re-use everything apart from re-doing the seals.

My engine was fine, it's just unlucky that the oil cooler line split. It's the first time a rotary specialist had actually heard of it happening! DOH!

In my opinion, they are few and far between... that's what I like about them. Not every tom ***** and harry has one! Again, IMO they are far better looking than a Mr2, better handling and more power in stock form. A few mods here and there and an Apexi PFC and you're laughing!

As long as you get a good one, you'll be fine.

 Good job you keeping it matey. As for a tubby or an rx7 im afraid its the rx every single time. After being in one and lucky enough to try it out (355 bhp one) it was scary but fun!!! been in tubbys and theyre ok but the rx so kills it with looks and everything
