Picnic 2.2 Td Engine Broken.

The engine suddenly made a scrapping sound. Apparently a piece of metal entered the air intake . My car needs a new engine and we are talking £7K for bits !! Has anyone had the same experince ? I had the cam belt done within the last year and change the oil every 4.5K miles. My current solution is to get a second hand engine from Japan and get a little company to fit it for me. Does anyone know how to reprog the key fob? Are there any issues I should be aware of ? How long does a turbo last for ? Have I made a mistake buying a Toyota?
