Auris Diesel Turbo

Hia all,

I've got an Auris 2.0 D4D. Does anybody know at what point the turbo kicks in? My last car was a Civic 1.7TD, and in that you could really feel the surge at about 2500 rpm as the turbo kicked in. My auris seems to lack that surge. It couls just be that the Auris is much smoother (no complaints about acceleration), or that I'm not used to driving it yet - I've only done about 500 miles so far.

I'm sure the toyotas have a smoother power delivery. I think max torque is between 2k and 2.6k and max power is delivered by 3.6k. I'm sure the power delivery is a smooth curve provided you are at least 2.2k RPM.

on mine there's a bit of lag at low revs in the lower gears and the turbo kicks in at about 2k rpm, but if you drive it following the shift indicators its really smooth and you dont notice it.

The turbo on mines spools up from 1.6k RPM and by 1.8k min it already has reached max torque by the time i stick my foot down.

I get a lag if i start off from no revs but if i'm stationary and i rev to 2k then release the clutch i get little or no lag.

I agree, I have an 1.4 D4D engine and the turbo kicks in from 1.6k rpms (you can hear it clearly although it's a very quiet turbo) and about 1.8 - 1.9 you feel the max torque.

It works better if you don't step your foot down from the very beginning, if you do it slowly and following the rpms. It does a very smooth and nice work for a 1.4 engine ;)
