Landcruiser Aircon Problem

Hi all,

I have a 53 LC5 and am having aircon issues. The compressor was replced by my dealer last year under waranty and just recently (waranty expired) the aircon stopped working again.

I have just been told by the dealer that I have two pipes cracked an the cost of replacement is £500.00 (about 150 for labour). Apparently this is not connected to my original problem.

Has anyone replaced these pipes themselves or if not know of any resonable garages in the Manchester area??

most aircon places make the pipes up themselves , its only rubber hose at the end of the day with a connection at either end. phone around a few places they will do a leak test using coloured dyes , then replace the pipes if any are leaking. cant imagine it to be anything near 500 notes.

Thanks for the advice - will let all know of outcome.

Incidentally, anyone know where I can get a service manual for 2003 LC5 Landcrusier.

Can't seem to see any appart from the MAx Ellery version for the Prado which apparently goes to 2006 - any links or downloads that anyone aware of?

  • 2 weeks later...

The pipes that have cracked are most probably metal and a pain in the ***** to remove/fit.

We have replaced a few A/C pipes on LC's in the past, they route all over the place in the engine bay and if the vehicle has rear A/C they

are routed along the bulkhead and down the drivers side of the floor.

You maybe able to get some pipes made up but i doubt they will fit around/into some ofthe original pipes routes properly.

Did they say which pipes were cracked?

Challenged them on which pipes and waiting to be told.

Took car to 2 air con specialists:- First told me there are 8 pipes in total and he could not see which was leaking/cracked but clearly I am loosing gas from somewhere.

Second told me that he could not do anything with pipes as you need a Toyota specific tool and Toyota would not sell/lend out - sounds a bit odd..

Starting to feel like I will have to take it to dealers.
