Hi all

just registered as i have now a 1995 St205 and loving it.

but have one issue, it has developed a sort of creaking sound when i go over bumps or when i corner :crybaby: , i have looked at the suspention and can not see anything out of the ordinary any ideas as what it could be.

this has only happened since last week and before it has been fine.

I am a little worried that it could be the suspention giving up or something worse any Ides would be greatfull :help:

Welcome Alex.

Not an expert on the 205, but no doubt they'll be along soon.

Just hope it's not the figure 8's as they're expensive. But creaking doesn't sound like too big a problem.

Toyauto in Nottingham are quite close to you and would give you good advice; I think they'd charge about £30 to investigate but they will net that off any work if any is needed. Toyota dealer would charge similar for less than 1/2 an hours work and not net it off the work, and in my experience they don't know these cars as well as a specialist like Toyauto.

If you do decide to check out Toyauto, call them first as I know they've moved and site doesn't seem to have been updated. Not sure of the new location but Ian said the phone was being re-directed last time I spoke to him. In any case they've always been really busy when I've been there.

And don't be put off by the website which is rubbish.

Good luck with getting it sorted, and enjoy your 4!

Tony

I get a wee creak noise sometimes, but nothing ever come of it, thought it was coming from the wheel area, but had wheels off and nothing to see. let me know if you find anything!!

Hi Alex. Congrats for getting a ST205. Now I think you need to do a bit of research about your Superstrut.

http://gtfour.supras.org.nz/superstrut.htm

The superstrut wasn't designed to last. Unfortunately it'salso very expensive. Identifying which part is making the noise is also difficult. Often when one part of the superstrut the rest of the whole mechanism would need changing pretty soon. Quite often it's just the bush joint called fig8 that goes first. Then the Lower arms and so on. my WRC ST205 has done just over 100K and I've spent little over 1K for a compleat change. Hope the link helps.

if it is the suspension , it will knock rather than creak on bumps , your issue could be a spring or a top mount even, superstrut parts can be done at around 300 quid a side for the 2 main parts that wear away , plus labour if you dont diy.

a creaking sound may also sugest the lower arm 2 ( banana arm ) is worn , as this part has a heavy rubber bush inside rather than a steel ball joint which sits on a metal dowel which wears away .

the 2 main parts though ,when worn will give a cracking metal on metal sound and knocking sound on small bumps and turning .

you can replicate the sound by standing still , turn the steering wheel side to side , it usually cracks also when pulling away slowly. HTH . DONT GO TO A DEALER FOR THE PARTS .super expensive. try funkystyling.co.uk or http://www.tcbparts.co.uk/.

Had it looked at and they could not find anything with the creeking but i will keep my ear out to see if it was just something miss-aligned or something worse
