I race an AE92 Corolla Gti-16.

Its spent over 120 miles, all in second gear and on the redline.

Turn the key, and its fresh as a daisy. Ready to scalp more 205Gti's, CRX's, XR2i's and any other 1.6 for that matter!!

The car handles, just like a well balanced rear wheel drive. Get it right, and it will oversteer. Almost drift style, overtake on the outside and with a redline of 7400. Most other contenders drop out at 6. Giving me 1500 revs worth of overtaking advantage. like taking candy from a baby!

Whats worrying me, is sometimes the CRX boys win. I've got to admit. That Honda is the mutts nutts.. Not as strong as the old Corolla though, and in racing, its not good enough to win just one. You have to win consistently. That takes reliability, which the Gti-16 has in droves!!

We are restricted to unmodified internals. How can i get more?

Fitting a K&N properly, works wonders!

I've modified the stock downpipes, so that scavenging is encouraged at the two into one section. This really helps draw those gasses out! Also, it runs pretty cool, thanks to huge sierra twin fan radiator. I trick the car into thinking its getting cold air, by cooling the Intake air temperature sensor! So i'm mostly on all 5 injectors! HAHA!!

I need more though. Was thinking of ditching the EFI. Anyone know what manifold and carb, i could get hold of? Or where else i should modify, any tips?

Is it legal for you to change the inlet ? If yes..then maybe you could switch over to ITB's together with a standalone ECU ? It's a lot of money but then.. there's not that much when it comes down to bolt-on parts. What engine do you have anyway.. is it the TVIS or the non-TVIS ?

Hey Michel!! I bet they sound nice! That's what i need; dirty great Jenvey's, tinkerable ECU. How much better is that?

That might blow the budget though! By about £1500-2000!!

My car's a latter non T-VIS 16 valve, circa 1992.

Scrutineering is pretty loose. Just so long as the engine's internals and car are from the same range. All ancilliarys, etc are free to be replaced, such as the inlet, even the head. I would like to use OEM parts if i can.

Well what "they" mostly do in the US :

Make an adapterplate for the newer 20v ITB's to fit your inlet ports (i think they somewhere sell those adapterplates nowadays since it's quite popular amongst ae86 drivers..)

Then source the 20v ITB's .. Silvertop/Blacktop ones doesn't really matter that much

The ECU would be the most expensive though..

Other things that spring to mind.. lightweight pully's (waterpump and crank) available @ TechnoToyTuning in the USA.

If you can change the head, the obvious thing would be to change that to the 20v head, along with ITB's.

Are you not able to swap the whole engine and box to 20v stuff? I think the blocks are the same so you could re-build the internals into your 16v block maybe? The 20v has a short ratio gearbox which is ideal for track work. It also rev's to 8,200rpm and can do 8,500rpm no sweat if you raised the limit.

Sounds good to me. Although i wanted to know how to get the best outta the 16v.

Where do you find a 20v. I mean which models came with one?

I was thinking of tracking one down fom a scrapyard or spares or repair.

What exactly would i have to get with it, in the way of loom, ECU, etc.

I've always been aware of the 20 valver. Never noticed what car it was in.

You won't find a 20v in any scrap yards. They come in Corolla Levins and Trueno's, AE101 and AE111. There aren't many around, you could import one from Japan.
