I was with one of these specialists that do imports and i was paying over £1000 ... the following year i called Direct Line and they did it for £500 with the same cover.... they were the cheapest by a long shot

Crowthorne were very reasonable for a lady driver over 45!

My local office ofHill House Hammond would not insure. my Surf, and the AA said that imports were all sub standard safetywise, and probably stolen!

Hi there, just joined this group as I just became a Toyota owner :D. I tried all the above insurers and found that Privelege were the cheapest for me, Tesco were second best but got beaten due to heavy access charges. Hope this info helps.

I've had imports for the last 3 years and have found the following

I have a 1998 Toyota Aristo V300 (the twin turbo Lexus GS300) and out of all the so-called specialist insurers, only Privilege and Tescos would quote.

I had previously been insured with Privilege but was unhappy with the cost of renewing when you get an additional 10% discount by being a new customer and ordering via the Web.

I got Tescos to quote and they were cheaper by a little bit and ended up going to them.

My other vehicle is a 1997 Toyota Ipsum (Picnic) MPV. The cheapest insurance by far was Direct Line who beat their own sister company Privilege by 200 quid.

Direct Line appear the cheapest if they will quote on your model. Check out and get quotes online. Even when renewing make sure you shop around - there is usually a better deal by swapping insurers. Tesco were very helpful and close on the quotes.

I've found the Insurance field a bit of a nightmare as everyoe is so different, have read through the posts on various companies and when it was time to renew my insurance tried them all.

In my case Elephant was the cheapest, I guess the only true way to get a good deal is to have a list of all the companies and read the feedback given and see what they can give at the time of renewal. It would be nice to have an insurance campny where you could estimate the insurance costs but even a quote with Dorset with the mr2dc cover was not cheaper.....

Guess it just a case of shopping around when the time comes. Maybe we could have an area devoted to INsurance where people could post there exepriences of there insurance companie, contact numbers etc so when we all come round to renewing we don't have to go hunting for a list of numbers,

cheap premiums might seem good but what are the excesses?
