Hi can anyone help my engine management light comes on at various intervals.

I loose all my turbo power when it does.I had it scanned at local garage who admits they dont know much about Rav 4,s He scanned my rav for free and then said he didnt know what the code meant as he never scanned a rav before.

The scan said P1215 EDU circuit.

Was just hoping someone on here could tell me what this means.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help

Well, I don't know if it will mean much to you, but the EDU is a little box of electrickery that works with the engine management system to drive the fuel injectors. Unfortunately, I Can't find that trouble code in the info I have. If you can let us know the exact RAV model you have (petrol/diesel/year etc), it would aid me or maybe somebody else in trying to help you further.

Better still, if you can update your profile to include all that info, then it can help the forum get specific answers to you more quickly in the future.

If you look here (to your left):-

<------------

My profile summary lists model year engine type etc, for my RAV. Many others on the forum do the same. Thanks

Cheers

(sorry, I've just seen your RAV piccy. So it's a 4.2 Diesel, probably before about 2004?. I've got trouble code P1251 for that but not P1215).

Hi Anchorman

Thanks for that info and the link.

Sorry i forgot to put that the garage said P1215 EDU circuit but me being me I have not a clue what an EDU is or where to even start to look for it

My brother has a copy of auto data on his puter and just looked on that but it gives no reference to where the EDU is located lol.

My Bro is no mechanic so not a clue why he has auto data on his puter.

cheers for the info.

From what I remember of the 4.2, if you stand looking at the engine with the bonnet open, I think the EDU is the small brown plastic box (maybe with a waxy coating) on the left hand side, by the top of the suspension mounting? (slightly away from the engine). It has a connector with about 8 pins.

In Anchorman's link, the P1215 has another code (97) with it. I do have the 97 code which is for the EDU. Possible faults are the EDU harness wiring, the EDU itself, a faulty injector or the SCV.

I can go into more diagnostic details if you want? If I had to put my money on something it would be on a dodgy injector or a harness connector. Although maybe the dreaded SCV is a better bet as it seems to be a more common problem and may be a better fit to the symptoms.

Golly gosh.

I don't have one of those on my RAV, then again its petrol. I feel deprived (depraved?).

Whats an EDU?? I know a DEU is a diesel electric unit.... but an EDU?

And while we're at it, an SCV? Steam Control Valve?? anchorman'll know about them.... And why's it dreaded?? I've driven around various roads and haven't seen any Government warnings to look out for SCVs.

NBR - a thing which I've found I need to install for people trying me RAV..... Neck Brace Restraint!

And the on/off switch has stopped working on my Falcon oven again! Part of a touchscreen panel costing £2000 !!

Aye - even ma oven is turbocharged!

SCV = Suction Control Valve (no it's not a vacuum cleaner)

EDU = Electronic Drive Unit (I think). (No it's not an auto pilot)

Erm a touch panel on a oven. Yeah great. Putting electronics on something that gets much hotter than 150C. clever. Probably inadequate heat dissipation control around the electronics. In fact the touch panel is probably "commercial" spec, which is usually only rated to +70C.

Thanks for that. Maybe we need a glossary or is there one??

As for the oven, its a Falcon Commercial oven supposedly built to run up to 240C. Built in Scotland, they are now obsolete and are built in germany to a different spec. Should have guessed at the time!!

Thanks to everyone for there replies.

I am an absolute nerd when it comes to anything mechanical. After having a Ford escort for the last 16 years. Yes 16 years of trouble free motoring. But i must say I love my Rav and would never go back to Ford. But I am finding it hard to get to grips with all this new fangled Technology. :nerd:. Looks like its a trip to Toyota to get it sorted.Old age creeping in is sure a problem when trying to get to grips with new fangled technology

I have to say that I think shcm is right and it does sound a bit scv ish. I think they are dear but kingo will discount them for you so get a price from your dealer before shelling out.

Bothy

Trust you to cook in a blast furnace. Still, wouldn't mind some of that steak pie that bothwoman does :chef::eat:

I think Mr Toyoda must have been in the army before he copied a Morris or whatever it was because there are so many acronyms that we could write a book.

To be honest, I think we are being a fair bit technical here, so apologies for that, but hopefully the info may perhaps help to stop anybody "pulling the wool over your eyes", when they do a fix for you.

Bothy - Could start a glossary if you want, perhaps a pinned post. As you say, might be one elsewhere on the forum - I haven't checked.

Anyway, must go, the mention of pie is making me

Cheers

Jaenjays, did you get your P1215 code fixed?? What was the solution, my D4D RAV has developed the same problem, have checked wiring to injectors from EDU so far. Does it once or twice a day, a quick off/on with the ignition key resets it.

Do you cook a lot of Falcons, in Scotland then Bothy? and how long do they need at 240c ? How long can you keep them in the Freezer? I put a turkey in our freezer on Christmas eve and the following day it was dead :unsure:

Retrieved this information from this site Diagnostic Trouble Codes Library

I hope it's helpful.

Enter your five digit Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and select vehicle below then click GO:

Select Vehicle (Example: P0300)

Code Make Description

P1215 Toyota Sub Injector Circuit Malfunction

IMPORTANT: Retrieving and utilizing Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC’s) for troubleshooting vehicle operation is only one part of an overall diagnostic strategy. Never replace a part based only on the Diagnostic Trouble Code Definition. Always consult the vehicle’s service manual for more detailed testing instructions. Each DTC has a set of testing procedures, instructions and flow charts that must be followed to confirm the exact location of the problem. This type of information is found in the vehicle’s service manual.

Hi - did you ever get to the bottom of this?

i have a 2003 diesel whioch developed this fault after it had a new gearbox and clutch. The garage has tried all conenctions etc and can only come up wioth replacing loads of expensive parts including the EDU but then cannot guarentee that it will be fixed.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Mitch

Not long after I joined I was having the same problem with TLA's. Anchorman posted a list of ( seemingly ) hundreds which should be about on here somewhere. Just thinking about the problem now, there are probably only about 20 of them that get regular use here so a glossary in the "Pinned" section would be very useful. Don't think that there is any way that you can take the "wikipedia" approach on here so that more than one person can contribute to the same document?

Coincidently, I'm in the throws of editing a document that someone else has written. There were that many initials that I started a glossary to aid future readers. Came across one that stumped me so I rang the author - he didn't know either :bash:

The trouble is that there are 1000s of them but I suppose the popualr ones are 0627 which is SCVs and 1251 which is turbo over pressure and comes back to the VSV, turbo pressure sensor or the vac linkage.
