Hi all!

I'm building a car of my own based on a spaceframe chassis. I have choosen the toyota camry V6 engine for toyotas great quality. My problem is the gearbox. Until now I have tried to mate the engine with an audi 01-gearbox but whitout sucess.

I thought that maybe toyota have a gearboxes that would fit? The engine is longitudal and mid mounted. I need as much as possible information about the 1mz-fe (camry 3.0 v6 engine). A CAD-drawing of bolt pattern would be wonderful :)

Maybe are there other gearboxes than toyotas that would fit?

All information will be greatly apperciated!

Best regards,

Stefan

A few people have carried out this transplant with their MR2's.. from MK1's right through to MK3's.. If you get no luck here.. try asking in an MR2 forum

Yes!

I'll post a question in their forum :)

This is my current gearbox:

So this type of gearbox is what I need...but with boltpattern for 1mz-fe :)

Rogue motorsport have swapped out the !ZZ-FE engine from their MK3 MR2 VM180 for a 1MZ-FE 3.0 litre V6 engine from the '96+ Toyota Camry. They used the S54 from a mk2 MR2 mated to a stock Toyota 3VZ flywheel... seemingly.

More can be read here... http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php...highlight=1mzfe

Give them a call if you need more info.

have you tried getting a conversion plate made up? this will bolt to the engine and then the transmission will bolt to that.

this is a common job for the VW Beetle guys when fitting the Subaru boxer engine

Dawesy: I have tried, but there are some issues. My last resort is to get back to that gearbox, but first I'd like to make sure that there are no suitable toyota gearboxes.

CAD-drawing of boltpattern of the 1mz-fe engine would be nice though :)

I have heard that some lexus have 4wd...which means that they should have some kind of transaxle layout. They have also used the 1mz-fe engine :) Could this be a leed?

  • 3 months later...

Toyota Altezza gearbox is RWD from a longditudinal engine.

Would just need a custom very short driveshaft.

It is expensive though.

Best bet is an Audi 80 gearbox with an adaptor plate.

That's how we're doing it on TB. B)
