i'm a n/a boy, i want to transplant a turbo lump in when i can afford it, don't want to buy a turbo as i have a rare zircon blue car that i think is the best colour and i'v been told when i thought of trading it in will get a £500 primium over any other colour, i'd want a rev 3 lump tho as its easier to mod to 300bhp ish. The only tubby zircon car i've seen was in newera and had been modded in jap land to 500bhp and cost a fortune i couldn't reach.. jim i like your car it looks great and i'm sure goes like **** off a shovel, i just don't think its 280bhps worth.

in Glasgow theres like no mr2 turbo owners here they are all NA boys

I take that back now. I was unfortunate enough to run outta bog roll(hey! it happens to every1 ok!)so jumped out bout an hour ago to petrol station. Filled up to the brim with optimax and thought....%$( it..Im gonna check out whats happenin in town. Minute I came in I seen a yellow rev1 tubby come outta nowhere SIDEWAYS  Cut a long story short hes a sorted chap and should be postin up here soon as hes just bought the tubby and has plans for it(dont we all).

On an amusing side note a late spec escort cosworth chickened out a quick drag road. He actually quickly pulled out to chase me when I drove past em (The road is well known to people who are just out to race..long,2 lanes, flat and quiete, usually people bait each other there like Mr Cossie was).Happened while i was demonstrating my rev4 to the other tubby owner lol. It was well obvious I wanted a race as I was rolling in 2nd gear but the minute they read T-u-r-b-o on the side strip they sloooowly dropped back and turned off lol! Was well funny. :D

interesting post the jimlad, could turn out to be quite informative.

I think what most people r trying to say is taht the figures Fensport claim r more likely potential MAX gains. So if going by the usual approah the figure attainable would be below this, hence the 260bhp stated by peeps.

TBH w. ya m8 i'm not disputing your figures at all, just i thawt there was more to gaining power. Also whats a "safe" power figure that u could run w.o buggering your car?

I mean you obviously(?) couldnt run it @ 18psi all the time could ya, so u only do that for racing... But is the 18 a boost only attainable when conditions r met, i.e. cars "warmed up", cold outside etc?

Can't wait to c Bibb's dyno run results.

Oh and its nice to c ur bak at works m8, gota earn some money that that hybrid turbo conversion

Keep it cool pal.

280bhp mate... 280 ... lol

a 750bhp MR2 engine ?? ... lol.. would love to see.

there was a mr2 with the 700bhp engine up for auction a while a go... was a white one in japan

from memory there was a company in the states selling the upgraded 3sgte engine for about 25K USD.

Jimlad - the best way to knock this on the head - so to speak - is on a rolling road day. then you can have final proof.

As impressive as a 700hp MR2 may sound, I would imagine it would be unmanagable. The car simply isn't designed for this type of power delivery, and I dread to think what the handling is like. From what I can see, 350hp tops is the type of figure you should lookingat if you still want to enjoy driving the car. I've seen these 700hp vehicles before, and the front end actually takes off under the acceleration. Great in a drag race, not so good around corners!

I'm still in two minds about whether to mod mine. All mods are pretty expensive i.e. £100 + and there lots to do to get decent power increases. At the end of the day, I really don't feel happy about throwing money into a car like this - you never see it back. However, I then read threads from people who have modded their cars, and the fun and excitement they have with this work. I dunno, maybe I'll just save up for a Supra instead - better still a House....Or maybe i'll mod......

yeah... I'm like you dame... I'm always in two minds... Mod the car or save for a Supra ?!?

Either way I've already spent heaps on this car.. and it's gonna cost me another £2000 to get the paint job and kit fitted. Not including the price of the kit... so for the time being.. makes sense to keep the MR2.

sorry jimlad, running a rev 1 turbo myself and find it hard to believe 280bhp from that, fensport may claim that but it'd be for a rev 3. on mr2oc saggy was running a rev2 turbo with blitz exhaust, decat, induction, and stage 3 turbo running at 19 psi and he only managed 270bhp odd at owen developments as he hit the limit of fuelling.

Interesting to see the "I'll save for a Supra" comments.....Since a mate of mine got his TT Supra I told myself that that and a ST205 GT-4 would be the only other car that I'd be interested in possibly ditching my MR2 for....then I upgraded from a GeN II to a III.....I don't feel that way anymore. The Supra rocks...has HEAPS of power and feels really solid but it just doesn't seem as quick and sharp, on the motorway he would own me....but dragging it just doesn't have the off the mark potential the G-III's do, you guys gotta go for a ride in a worked Gen III and see if it alters your opinons too :) The MR2 is definitly more bang for buck mods wise untill you get to the high figures.

Cheers

Yeah I know what you mean about the Supras - I found the same thing when I took a 3000 GT out for a test drive. I think it's because these cars are heavier, and more stable, that they somehow don't feel as quick. Perhaps it's more the fact you're not running by the seat of your pants! LOL

However, I've also been lucky enough to drive a Griffiths 500 - and that was awesome - 30MPH - 180MPH in fifth gear - with bags and bags of torque - it's very tempting..... :)

I finally got my car dyno'ed (I'll add a new thread etc soon).

Mate has got a supra - he missed the MR2 for fun driving .. the supra is twice as powerful, but not as point and squirt apparently ..

From what I hear this is true, Supra's are very good in a straight line, less good around the twisty bits.

What are you talking about?!?

I said 170BHP, not 400BHP.. and it was a joke.

I question you, I dont think you are running 280bhp and pushing the n/a lads down wont do you any favours.

Its all nice adding up your figures.. get it on a road and we will find out.

got that on a DVD free with redline last summer it was called high octane 1 they did time trials in the rain (crazy) there was a mx5 with a turbo that they had to weigh down with lead weights , and it had Mr veilsides skyline think it had like 1000bhp or sumthing

I've been in an ex-rally 1000BHP Skyline - and that was beyond scary!! The most impressive thing was that we were on an icy road for some of the time. The driver put his foot down to the floor and the thing accelerated in a completely straight line !!!!

How come Bibb's measures 196 at the wheels 250 flywheel with his massive list of mods, and yours is 280? Have you done more to your engine that him?

I'm not having a go, just asking.
