Hi, just a quiuck question about the last celica's.

Were all UK celica (140 and 190) 6 speed gearboxes?

Also thos with these, what sort of rpm are you doing in 6th at say 70mph?

Cheers;

All UK Gen7's are 6sp.

The 190 and 140 are different, with different gearing.

the 140 at 70mph it would be approx 2.5-3k rpm, the 190 would be 3.5-4k rpm.

I always found my 190 to be a bit tiresome on long motorway journeys because the revs were so high for normal motorway speeds... they should have added a seventh gear :D . I don't know if I imagined this either, but I used to live in Nottingham and do an 80 mile round trip every day to and from work on mostly motorways, but I'm sure I used to get more miles out of a full tank if I stuck at 80 instead of 70...strange.

Oh, so the 140 box is a better motorway cruiser??

Many thanks for the replies. Looking into a 6 speed box for my starlet, but i want to make it better for motorway speeds in top gear. the 190 top gears sounds similar ratio to my 5th gear now.

Cheers;

Harvey
