Carina E Braking System

M.O.T.is near help required please !

My '97 1.8 SE has developed a fault in the Braking system. If the brakes are applied a noise like like a spring being wound can be heard, at the same time there is usually some give - about 5mm in the Brake pedal.

The brakes are working ok though. The ABS light is not lit.

I have the haynes manual and this speaks about a modulator on the braking system, could this be faulty ?

Cheers

I Assume that you have checked the pads/shoes and that the braking efficiency is adaquate. That being the case I would think that the problem lies with the servo system. This would be the only reason for the pedal sagging during braking. Check the condition of the hose from the inlet manifold to the servo housing. There may be a leak.

The winding clock noise. Is that coming from the pedal assembly or from the wheels? Can you get someone to stand in the road to listen to pinpoint where the sound is coming from?
