I don;t usually look at the makes but these were Continental. I'd like them to last a bit longer so gonna ask around. Maybe someone on here could recommend ??

My 2006 diesel Aygo has done an average of 63mpg between 23k and 44k miles. 5,300 miles per year, probably more rural than urban driving.

Now at 44k (5 and a half years old) it requires a replacement fuel injector at a cost (Toyota dealer repair) which wipes out any prior savings on fuel:

152,000 2 new front tyres replaced at Toyota for £130. I also went to Kwik Fit Easthampstead Road, Bracknell who lied and told me I needed 4 new tyres. The bloke even went round with the little tread measuring device and holding it in such a way trying to convince me.LIAR ! Toyota had already told me the back tyres were fine. I walked out and went back to Toyota for the job. I remember seeing Kwik Fit on Watchdog some time ago about this little trick. Won't go back there again. Can't stand people trying to rip me off. The dealership may be a little more expensive, but I don't feel I've ever been lied to. In fact, I am treated very well there I feel. (Octagon Toyota Bracknell).

Chris, do you have a Toyota service plan on your car ? or do you just pay for your services when you go into the garage ? do you use the Main Dealer ? or do you use cheaper local garages ? just wondered as your car is lasting well and want to make sure im doing everything right with mine.

My car is 6 years old now. I have no service plan. I take it in to Octagon Toyota near Bracknell, which is a main dealer. I have taken it there every time.

Now at 154,500 . Smell of diesel fumes coming into the car if I set the air intake to outside rather than re-circulate. In the garage at the moment being looked at. As usual, they gave me a temporary car without me even asking.

Also re: the tyres probelm with Kwik Fit as mentioned above - Kwik Fit sent a man round to my house to check the garage hadn't tried to sell me something I didn't need. They contacted me, which I was impressed with. He told me it is their policy to advise tyre change when it gets to 3mm. As you may know, the legal limit is 1.6mm . Toyota DID NOT advise me to change tyres yet. Make up your own minds.

154,500 Is serious mileage for the little Aygo.

Hello ! Well , the disiel fumes were coming in due to a perished seal on one of the injectors. Garage have replaced all 4 seals and cleaned the deposits & injectors. Not only have they fixed the problem - but one thing I didn't expect was the car feels more powerful now. Why would this be ? Total cost was £495 for this work.

If the diesel fumes can get out past the seal ,then air can get sucked in duing the engines cycle, so you would of had a weaking mixture in the cylinder, thus less power.

Well, 156,200. Smell of neat diesel now coming into the cabin. Small puddle of diesel under the engine in my garage. Garage took the car in and gave me a replacement as usual no problem. That was 2 weeks ago. They are having a problem finiding the leak. Apparently have sent one of the injectors off to specialists to see if that is the problem.

Took them over a week to find this one. A small hole was found in one of the injectors. All ok now. £275.

Sadly, I have been enticed by the 0% finance on Toyota cars atm. I'm replacing the Aygo with a desil Yarris which has now been ordered. I've loved my little Aygo, and have been pleased to share it's 6 year story with you. In all that time it's only broken down (unable to move) twice. Once, for a faulty wiring loom, and the other, a dead Battery at about 4 years. Now coming up to 158,000 miles. Just another couple of weeks and it'll be gone. Might start a thread for the Yarris and share that experience on here.

October 30K Mile Main Dealer service went fine.. no issues

January 40K Mile Main Dealer service went fine.. no issues

March - 1st MOT Main Dealer - Front tyres done 26000 miles, replaced with Continental Eco Contact 3's - new front headlamp bulb

Today (30 March) - EXHAUST FELL OFF @ 47000 miles.. the back box has rotted away from the rest of the exhaust completely. Toyota have quoted 255.48 for another (+ 3 yr Warranty on Box), but Longlife in Amesbury are fitting a full cat back system (All Stainless Steel) next Tuesday for £279 all in, with a LIFETIME WARRANTY. Stainless steel should last forever, and i didn't want to payout for another from Toyota if i am going to be replacing it in 18 months time.

Current Mileage 47000

Over 48,200 miles now on my 56-plate 2007 Aygo (ex-demo model, had 1,800 on it when I took it on) :) lovely trouble-free motoring, until now! Gear changes were smooth as you like until I drove home after a shift earlier this week... now it's really tricky to engage low gears, especially first, at low speeds. Still smoothish between higher gears when at speed. Taking it to a local garage, fearful the gearbox will need reconditioning. Should this happen to a 5-year-old car on 48k miles? All servicing done with Mr T, the 50k/5yr one is due in a couple of months.

Hi Laura,

I also bought my aygo with 1800 miles (ex demo too) and have just booked my 50k service in for 12th May..

You may have seen my post about my exhaust breaking on my Aygo, I think like your gearbox this happens to some people but not all..

Your problem may just be the gear linkage, this happened to me on my old corsa.. the lower gears where a pain to get in (mainly 1st and second) from memory a new linkage was around £170 fitted, and the gears where slick smooth again. (that was at 45k miles on the corsa)

Please post back with what the outcome is.. and how much it costs to fix. (im at similar mileage so the same may happen to me)

Good Luck

I have an Aygo MMT, its 4 years old in July and have done 120,000 (I am a driving instructor), its not really very good as a driving school car as the auto box remembers and learns by the previous persons driving which is a bit of a problem. I have had 1 clutch at 60,000 and another at 118,000 along with an actuator, the two have just cost me £1400, but I suppose no other real problems, still have the same exhaust and no other big bills, so I suppose I am doing well.

Had my 50k mile service the weekend...

The dealership has told me my front discs need replacing as they are 'just' under the Toyota recommended limit. £195 for new discs and pads fitted.

This seems like a good price however I am going to check if i NEED to do this now, or is it just a recommendation ? i know they are not low enough to fail an MOT. I have 60% worn front pads, so they still have life left too. (im wondering if i will get anther 10k miles from the discs ?? )

other than that all good

Current Mileage 50500

This seems like a good price .

I've seen front discs and pads go online for under £50 for a whole set.

Even if you aren't confident enough to change them yourself, let the dealership know the prices you've seen and you never know, you might get a decent discount.

-EDIT-

Forgot to post my super low mileage of 12,000 miles.

I just bought a 6 year old Aygo, with 45k miles on, so thanks - reading your 'story' has made me much more confident it has lots of life left. Currently running like a dream and bought from Toyota dealer so here's hoping.

I have driven about 56,5k miles, Aygo is about three and half years old. Has been great car, only the front discs, water pump and side mirror mechanism has been exchanged and all on warranty. Consumption has been great around 60 mpg.

Just about to hit 80,000 in 4 and half years in my Aygo Blue MMT. No probs to report execpt a new wheel hub last year and a lambda sensor failure which i mistook for an engine service light for ages

.

Avg about 56 mpg with 80% motorway driving about 75mph. when I drive closer to 60mph, it's easy to get 62mpg+

great car, dirt cheap to own and run.

Just carried out my first Oil Change service. Easy to do after I finally go the old oil filter off.. had to resort to the screw driver through the body and turn method.

Just about to pass 96K on my 56 plate. Getting a bit worried by a vibration coming from the front left. Wheel bearing or driveshaft I think. Fuel economy is starting to drop off. Any suggestions? Going for a service next week
