Just bought a 8x10/100 hub and i cant get my internet to work once i route the cable modem through the Hub to my PC...

The hub i have bought is a Genius GS4080SE (8 port N-Way Switch)

Any Ideas?

cable modem > patch 45 cable > Hub

from the hub i have

hub > patch 45 cable > PC...

Do i need to configure these? ... im sure they dont need to be as it should be pug and play...

Patch 45 cable??? never heard of it

If your looking at the ends of the cable do the coloured wires stay in the same place?

you should yous standard cat 5 network cable from the modem to hub & hub to PC.

put the modem into position 1 on the Hub & the PC further down.

after that try & ping the modem.

think u will find u need a router not a hub to share net conection.

The only other way to do it is to put 2 nic's in one machine one for internet other for network and then set up internet conection sharing in windows

sorry mate

After chattin to the techie helpline i was told the exact thing... I'm off back in a couple of days to get the hub returned and to get a router...

Patch 45? You mean RJ45.

RJ45 is a normal 10/100/1000mb ethernet cable.

Also you CAN use an adsl modem on a hub as long as you set everything up correctly and it also depends on the actual model of adsl modem. ;)
