Hi guys.

Time has come to service my Corolla G6 1.3 1999 model.

What is the best Brand & Grade of oil to use?

Alos part of fully synthetic?

What oil filter should i use, should i go for any or branded?

Want decent quality motor oil in the car as i do a lot of miles.

Any information will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

i always use full synthetic, 0w40 in all me motors. i use Valvoline Synpower - have done for a number of years after changing from Mobil1. You wont go wrong with Blueprint filters - exactly the same as Toyota ones. I always use a bit of flush too.

Will 0w40 be ok for my car?

What is the difference between fully and part synthetic

the good book recommends 0W30 so 0W40 should be fine.

here's a list of advantages of fully synthetic lifted from wiki;

Advantages

The technical advantages of synthetic motor oils include:

* Measurably better low and high temperature viscosity performance

* Better chemical & shear stability

* Decreased evaporative loss

* Resistance to oxidation, thermal breakdown and oil sludge problems

* Extended drain intervals with the environmental benefit of less oil waste.

* Improved fuel economy in certain engine configurations.

* Better lubrication on cold starts

semi is similar to fully synthetic only not as good

Thanks a lot guys, 0W40 it is.

Went to my local car parts store today and the guy recommended me 5w30.

Surely that cant be right if i need 0W40.

5W-30 fully synthetic B) it's enough, i'm using mobil-1 this moment, you might try comma, but i'm not too sure if that's good, but NO semi synthetic B)

How many miles has it done?

If it's done more than 50,000 I would NOT start using Fully Syn. now as you may find it starts to clean certain 'deposits' etc. away.

Personally I would use a semi synthetic such a grade as 10W 40, 5W 40, 10W 50 or 5W 30 (as parts chap said). However DO NOT use 20W 50 grade as this is more for older engine designs (pre-1982).

Genuine Toyota filter is approx £8

...blue print have been known to leak arround sealing area (nothing drastic but a little bit of 'misting').

Finally change oil in your engine a least every 4000-5000 miles or every 6 months -

-the 90000/One year recommendation in the Toyota handboook was STUPID!

Just bought a filter (genuine) £6.16 goes on so much easier than universal parts :)

After a lot of searching & running around i made up my mind.

I went down the 10w 40 route semi synthetic.

Hope that helps you guys in the future.

I know this is an old thread but it is the one that I found when looking for engine oil recommendations for my wife's G6.

I went to the local Toyota dealer for some oil, an oil filter and sump plug sealing washer on Saturday morning and interestingly this is exactly what they gave me (Toyota semi synthetic 10W 40 oil). I was kind of hoping that I would get a fully synthetic oil but given that a) the car (and as far as I know it's the original engine) has done 106,000 miles and B ) on the last service the previous owner had done they also used 10W 40 semi synthetic I didn't mind too much.

Anyway, oil and oil filter is now changed. Although I had the slight embarrassment of the wife finding the oil filter for me when I was scrabbling around under the car trying to find it ... "is this it?" she say's pointing at the front of the engine :D
