Above DVD available free on the 200th issue of Fast Car. It's in the shops now. Yes, most cars in NZ are like that. Cheap insurance and no emissions rulings. :)

Thats right! But the cars the kiwis had wernt upto that spec. This was topsecrets supra and all the rest were japanese cars and tuners that came over for a tps test. Cheesy DVD but there are some great cars.

No wonder N/Z has such low insurance, the sheep population out numbers the human population. More than likely why there are no emissions laws YET! Not that I dislike New Zealand, it's a beautiful country :P

Also Supra Vs GT4?

Both stock (Japanese Imports, Supra 280bhp & GT4 255bhp) there isnt much in them. I've seen the video thats been floating round the net where they race them head to head. The supra wins the quarter mile by 0.3 or a second and the gt4 actually gets out in front first!

twin turon Supra has 320 bhp?!? Plus, it does 0-60 in 5.0  That is almost a second faster than stock GT4!

But I would have st205 GT4 for the handling, but the Supra is the daddy on speed!

ACTUALLY!

UK supra has approx 320bhp, the jap imports have 280bhp

AND

UK GT4 is approx 6secs 0-60 but is not as powerful at the jap import GT4's

the Jap 0-60 are more like the supra's, i.e closer to 5secs

When my car ws stock over from japan i have evidence of 5.4secs 0-60

Recorded using Meter

Hi, I've just been watching a DVD, with a 680bhp supra. But get this it's running a 2 litre MR2 turbo engine (3sgte I think) capable of 200mph. Took original engine out to save weight as it is built for track racing rather than 1/4mile

Stupid comp - just typed a big message then lost it! :censor:

Anyhows, a brief re-run.

Yes, i was going to say there are 650-750bhp 3sgte's in japan. Absolutely mad. Think there is a 750bhp mk2 mr2!!! Insane. 125 bhp is enough in my mk1 in the wet!! lol

Escort rear wheel drive... No. They never made one (at least no production model). They aare all 4wd. the one at castle coombe was Martin Hadlands. Over 500bhp last time i heard! 0-60 in the 3's.

there were however rwd and 4wd sierra cosworths.. maybe people are getting these confused??.

As for st205 Vs Cossie... ooh tough.

The Cossie is great, looks so hard, and DOES have the street cred the st205 doesnt (but deserves). But technically the st205 is better. Those huuge brakes, brilliant engine etc. Much better value for money - and jap reliability (altho also high jap prices!!) Altho i do prefer the st185 looks  prepares for abuse from the st205 guys. lol. ST205 is better still though, just have always loved st185.

stock st205's do 0-60 in around 6 secs! My pal has 1! Maybe jap ones are faster but thats with better fuel. In the UK, a Supra would kill a GT4 in a straight line.

As for that Cossie, it may aswell be RWD cos thats how it handled, why did he have his plate as COS RWD ?????????????????????

In a straight line this is how a jap gt4 would fair against a jap supra tt.

0-30 GT4 Leading

30-60 Supra edges slightly out in front

Over 60 the supra would make the gap greater and greater.

See the video!

http://www.alltrac.net/media/bestmotorGT4-6.avi

But on winding road?

GT4 would kick *****, a sports car cannot be measured simply on straight line. If thats the case we will put a supra up against a dragster.

I believe the best sports cars have a well balanced overall setup, incorporating the best acceleration, with high top end, excellent handling and minimal weight.

Unfortunately the supra has only the first two of these nailed. Unlike the GT4.

Dont get me wrong i love the supra, but after driving a Supra TT, a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 7&8 and a GT4 i chose the GT4.

Dont forget the fastest supras in the world mostly use the 3sgte GT4 engine rather than the Supras JZ80. You can get as much power out of both engines.

I agree with everything you say, i would take a GT4 over the Supra, I was going on book speeds! Who wants a RWD 320bhp beast in the WET! LONG LIVE THE GT4'S!! :boxing::fear::boxing:

Yeah, not saying that, that car definately wasnt rwd. I dont know, never saw the rear wheels spinning like some said. Its not impossible to convrt it to rwd. had considered finding an old st185, and converting that to rwd (find one with a blown box is ideal) but a hell of a lot of work to rotate the engine throug 90 degrees!!

All i was saying is that from the factory, all escort cossies were 4wd. Maybe his has been converted...?

I think it must have had the op! I agree that they don't make a RWD Cossie(Escort)

I think your getting your cossies mixed up. Martin Hadlands one is the white one with reyland livery, hes currently rebuilding it for 650 bhp for ten of the best. He didnt get the wheels spinning at all. The car that did get the back out down at quarry (i too was sitting there (did anyone see the evo crash at quarry early doors by the way)) was a white escort cossie in full wrc livery. Someone told me it was an ex works rally car. It had Juha Kankkanuns (SP?) name and a fully stripped interior. Hence the fact it was able to get the back out so easy. Also you could tell it was 4wd as he was able to stick the back out but then get some power down at the front to pull it back (most of the time anyway)

STILL DOESN'T EXPLAIN HOW HE DID A 180 FROM A STAND STILL IF IT WAS 4WD, THAT CAR WAS POWERFUL BUT NOT THAT POWERFUL! THE 650BHP COSSIE (WHICH WAS RUNNING AT 400BHP) WAS 4WD, LIKE MOST, BUT I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THE OTHER 1! I HAVE IT ON TAPE :P

ALL FORD ECSORT COSWORTHS ARE 4WD UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN MODIFIED TO RWD (WHICH I DOUBT) OR IT’S KNACKERED. WITH A FRONT/REAR POWER SPLIT OF 34/66 (TWICE THE POWER IN THE BACKWHEELS) ITS EASY TO MAKE THE CAR DO A 180, JUST AS EASY AS A RWD CAR.

Yeah, get a Uni-chip or a Superchip or pretty much any after market cpu upgrade. They all to my knowledge remove the restriction.

Old topic I know but, I do know that there was a one off Escort Cosworth made using a Granada Cosworth V6 engine and that was rear wheel drive - was dark blue with the rea spoiler deleted (which incidentally was for the swiss market as it obscured rear view vision) but like I said it was a one off PROTOTYPE but never made production.

Cheers

Phil

I'm pretty sure there are rwd cossie's. At Brands hatch there are about 4-6 cossie's that are rwd for the rally days they hold there.

OK, newbie here, dont bag me for being sad and joining just to chip in to this thread.

I happened across this whilst hunting info on ST205's, i plan on buying one in the not too distant future.

First RWD Cossie, i'm working at Ford this summer on a summer internship - talked to my mate who's been assigned to team RS, there was never a RWD Escort Cosworth. From my own knowledge, the escort cosworth was created using the engine and running gear from a Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 which they built on to a custom escort esque Shell - there is not a single panel which is identical between escort cosworths and the same generation road car, even the RS2000.

3S-GTE power output, you can take them to over 900 hp as was mentioned with the Top Secret racing Supra. There are various celica's running 600-700 hp plus 3S-GTE's in the USA and Japan - quick example: Patrick Chinshue's ST185 That celica has run low 10 second quarters, dont believe me, check out the alltrac.net world race page, its got the time slip on it!

Update on Martin Hadlands car, it now runs 700hp plus and has clocked a top speed of 197.4 mph with a 0-60mph time of 2.9s

Anyways, I'm off to look at this fine site to see if i can get any info on ST205's like i came here for!

if tou really want to see a TOYOTA Vs. FORD Cosworth, try getting the movie Getaway In Stockholm 2, wicked stuff! The Cossie's dump valve gets a bit annoying after a while <_< , altough the back-fires on the Supra are pretty impressive  .
