1999 1.3 Cam Belt Or Chain

Hi everyone,

I just started to worry when I discovered a sticker under my bonnet stating the last belt change was done in 2004 at 55k miles, I thought it was overdue but having done a little research some people on other forums are saying that after 1997 Corollas have chains and do not need changing, looking at these forums though people are talking about changing belts after 60k (5 yrs).

Can someone please confirm that its belts and 60k or not for my model.

Also there is talk of being able to hear when it needs a change, can someone elaborate on this, my engines definitely sounding a bit more grindy than it used to.

Really appreciating any feedback,

Jon

1997 -1999 (AE111/EE111 model Codel) Corolla with '4EFE' 1.3 Engine

BELT ! Change every 5 years or 60,000 mile (which ever is sooner)

After 2000 - (AE111/EE111 'Facelift') till 2002 ... ...CHAIN.

should be a 4E-FE as stated above, but just to confirm the corolla 1.3 was only ever a belt, the later 4ZZ-FE which is a 1.4 was a chain (but as stated above by twin cam these weren't in corolla's till '02.

As stated in my first reply:-

You have no BELT!!!

Nothing needs changing, you are fine.

I respect your concern in the first place though, well done :)
