Carina E Engine Suddenly Cutout

Hi Can anyone help - while driving my 1995 carina E Auto today my engine suddenly cut out (never happened before in 6 years) - eventually got it going again by unplugging a plug under dashboard on passenger side - all appears to work i.e. no warning lights and alarm and central locking all work but if plug is reconnect engine cuts out and will not start again until this plug is disconnected. Plug has part number 00270-01051 on label --- can anyone tell me what this plug does
