Knocking Noise

hello everyone, new to toyota ownership. I have just came by a landcruiser 2.4 turbo diesel and there is a loud knocking noise coming what seems like the top end of the engine sounds very similar to big end knock but as i say sounds like the top end. I've taken the rocker cover off and had a look and nothing seems to be broken or missing but when engine is running this noise comes and goes all the time and speeds and slows according to revs and sometimes gets louder when revs are slowing down to tickover is there anyone out there with any idea or had similar problems and could give me some advice on this matter

It sounds like you have a problem with your lifters. Just take them out and rebuild them...not a big job.
