Help! Ac Button On Facia Broken. :-(

Hi everyone, my first post on these forums. :-)

My Corolla is 7 years old, a GS diesel. The AC button has always been slightly dodgy, I've always had to push it really hard sometimes to get it to turn off; yesterday I pushed it really hard and it pushed back through the facia! I'll post a picture of this on the thread when I get back home. My question is how do I remove this part of the facia so I can get the button pushed back in place? Unfortunately it looks like it will be very difficult to remove or get behind it. It's the part of the facia quite low down, beneath the vents, where things like the hot/cold air dial and the 'recycle air / air from outside' knob are.

I hope it's possible for me to do this myself, even if it's a long operation, as I really don't feel like taking it to a dealer and paying them an obscene £100/hr to do this. :-(

Can't prmise you I know whatI'm talking about here but...

Your center console is probably just held on by a few screws. See if you can spot them anywhere, if not, try removing one of your knobs, sometimes they're hidden behind them. Just a good pull usually gets them off.

Once you've removed the screws your C-Console should just pop off, I figure it'd come loose from the bottom easier. Then you can stuff your button back in place! It may need a bit of tape or something to hold it in place if the clip has broken but as you say, better than paying silly amounts of money to the dealer!

If that fails, Ignore this post and praysomeone else can help

I know for sure that theres a little block kind of thing behind the button which sits in the little slot. The clips may have broken on the actual dash to hold it. As t sport suggested use a bit of tape. My airbag kind of button on my corolla popped in due to an idiot thinking it wouldturn the seatbelt beep off!

I just had to undo the dash push it back in but you may need to put some paper or something to hold it tight just the block. Try finding out how to remove the radio cd as it is all in one panel so should come undone like that.

I just had a look for you'r car model cant find any instruction try to find out how to remove the stereo and from there it shouldnt be a problem.

Ask Toyota how to remove it thats all im sure they wont charge you money to find out. Or may not even charge to remove it for you and just push the button back in place.

londoner: how do you remove the 'recycle air / air from outside' knob? You sure pulling it hard won't break it? :-)

Also, do I need to disconnect the Battery when I'm doing this, or is there no risk of an electric shock?

Woohoo! I fixed it! :D

There were some screws behind the 3 knobs that I had to unscrew and the facia took some persuasion to get off, but when I did it was easy to fix and put back in place. It was a hot sweaty afternoon but once i'd finished, I turned on the engine and cooled myself with the AC for a few minutes. :D

Thanks everyone for your help!
