£816 Plus Vat Exhaust?

Hi,

I am thinking of buying a 2005 3 door Rav4 and was looking on the Parkers owner's reviews when I found one where a chap said his exhaust cost £816 plus VAT as it is a Toyota only part?

Is this true?

Are parts and servicing expensive on the Rav4?

I was having a search through this forum and, admittedly after a brief glance, there do seem to be quite a few posts re concerns over costs of repairs?

Thanks for any info,

T.

Exhaust costs can vary depending on if the cat needs to be replaced or not.

Any decent exhaust company could build a made-to-measure stainless steel exhaust that would last the lifetime of the car for well under that price if it were AFTER the cat. If there is one item that can ALWAYS be sourced from a place other then a dealer, it is an exhaust system.

My Honda HR-V needed a new exhaust and that is only available from honda 'off-the-shelf' as it is not a common enough vehicle for pattern parts - I went down bespoke Stainless Steel system for less money and a much better quality job.

IMO,

Toyota Servicing is not particulary cheap, but is probably on par with other Makes main dealers.

Toyota Consumable Parts are not that cheap - typical 10k intermediate service is say £130, 20K main service is £200ish labour and parts.

Toyota Parts and accessories are expensive, but tend not to need as many as typical Ford or Vauxhall.

Modern Cars are pretty reliable but are far more technical then cars of just 10 years ago and when something goes wrong, it costs! so need a car that doesn't tend to go wrong - Toyota and Honda are your best bets, I think.

I suppose if you really want a gold plated exhaust then its ok. My custom stainless exhaust from manifold to rear tail, including flexi pipe cost less than £500.
