What Are The Best Wearing Tyres For An Avensis?

Hi,

My 2007 Avensis (December) needs new rear tyres after only 21,000 miles. I used to get better tyre life than this on my old Vauxhall Vectra.

The tyres supplied by Toyota are Dunlop Sports 3000. 205/55R16 91V

Not only that, but the rear tyres have worn with flat spots, so they are now very noisy. Most of our mileage is easy motorway driving, so we ought to get better life than this.

Anyway - what are the best replacements? I've done a quick search through this forum and note that Continental Premi-Contact 2 gets a good mention (I've also had good experience with Premi-contacts).

Also Michelin Energy gets a mention.

Anyone had good experience with tyres on an Avensis?

Obviously life is important, but I want a good quality safe tyre!

Thanks in anticipation! Brendan.

Michelins are pretty noisy but tend to last the longest, I got 54k out of them out of a set and on my previous Avensis I got about 45k out of them.

As regards noise, any tyre when new is always quieter than old worn tyres because the grooves are deeper so whichever you choose will probably sound quieter than what you have at the moment.

Lo,

I've just replaced my fronts (Bridgestones EP300) after 31000 miles and 2mm of tread remaining with same (rears still have approx 5mm tread left) - totally dependable in wet or dry and pretty quite.

Aye ........ Bridgestones for me too ........ the EP300's are an excellent all-weather tyre, quiet and you get a great return mileage wise ........ 33k (front) on my last set and 36k (rear) although it is dependent on driving style.

in the garage we usually find that the michelins last a hell of a lot longer than the dunlops and bridgestones but this depends on driving styles, usuage and correct presures being set
