Mr2 Charging Problem?

My MR2 has given me a BIG headache...can anybody help please?

First of all my Battery went flat yesterday morning as i had left the cigarette lighter on by accident for the whole night. So in the morning i called the AA and the assistant began to charge my Battery but unlike on other occasions where i have had a flat Battery he asked me to turn the car on about 15mins into the charging. Nevertheles everything seemed fine and i drove away, but about 30mins later i noticed that the charge indicator level was really high (at its peak) and everytime i put the car into a gear, three dash lights lit up (batt light, low brake fluid light and engine cooling management light).

So i drove home and thought that the lights would disappear after a while. I then took the car out at night later that day and the lights where permanently on now and the charge indicator level was towards the lower part of the white area, when i arrived at my destination the car began to discharge until it turned off. I jumped started it twice from my friends car but the same thing happened.

So i left the car there overnight, and today i fitted a new battery on to my MR2. The car turns on now but the three dash lights are still on and the charge level indicator does not rise above the lower part of the white area (about 1/4), even after leaving it on for about an hour..

the car is not overheating either.

Can anybody please help as i don't really want to take it to the dealer in case it is something simple?? :(
