hello

are you sure the diesel reaches each injectors ?

i am not sure. How do you smell diesel ? for sure when filter changing some diesel is poured and may be this smell is felt there.

when cranking ---- ask some one to stay close to an exhaust pipe behide the car and observe whether white smoke goes out?

the most probably the problem is with solenoid valve feeding or its shirt cutted.

chceck and revert

cheers

Igor

besides

in case you're sure the diesel is injected then the problem is with injection timing (!).

or there are another problem with HP fuel injection pump delivery valve or injectors solenoids control circuit (in case of comon rail).

You can actually smell Diesel from the rear of the car,

When it is cranking, some times it managed to "cough" alittle and try to start.

its like not enough fuel is getting to the pump / injectors.

the filter was changed 10k ago, and I washed the complete engine bay afterwards..

The reason why i think it is the scv, a while back it threw CEL, and it wouldnt start.

I had a guy come around and look at the car, and I am sure he did some thing around the SCV's

I have already checked timing - and looked at all the tooths in the belt. (it looks fine)

this " cough" is a real signal of either timing violation or problem with camshaft positionning sensor. as I undarstand the last one gives a command to ECU and further.

as you see there several issues to be checked before final decision.

i do not see any others, as per your observations.

Igormus + an others

Update ...

after all moring of fidling and verifiying timing etc, I took the SCV apart, and cleaned them with brake cleaner,

Blow dried them and then made sure they were clean.

I then put them back into the car/pump cranked the car and it started first time!

so far after switching the car on/off several times It has worked brilliantly!

Whats the SCV you mention above? Your situation sound exactly like mine only i'm drinking petrol and yours is diesel. Not a hope will it start no matter how much it turns over. Did it start acting the flute around the day before it wouldn't start? Mine did and got it goin but next day, na ah - not a hope would she fire. Turning but not firing.

If your problem is the same as mine.

Ive got a DFD Avensis, full tank of fuel etc, all working fine etc, apart from the starter motor wont start the engine.

At fisrt glance the starter motor is turning over etc? but beaware that it has to turn very quickly to start the engine. Mine got worse from purchase so it was hard to notice untill it wouldnt start atall.

If you have the same problem as i did, save yourself some time and money ,and just swap the starter motor. i paid £50 at the local garage.

the car was completly differant starting and ive had no issues since.
