And lets not forget Top Gear - well worth the licence fee in its own right. ;)

The only decent programme on BBC but,

The new episodes are then played on DAVE only 2 weeks later and that channel is free!!

Exactly my point!

Course its a bit embarrasing when a Scotsman - John Logie Baird and his pals invented TV during a break in radio adverts....... he should have entered an agreement to stop the BBC taking control !

Miss the point a bit more please.

DAVE is a FREE channel. The fact that you need a box to view it is irrelevant.

Have you not heard of the Digital Revolution? All TV signals are going digital in a couple of years. With this in mind you'll need a digital ready TV OR a box to view ANY channels - even the BBC !

Citing an expense that's shortly going to be an essential part of watching anything is a bit on the weak side.

I believe you do need a TV licence to watch Dave, even if you dont watch the BBC laugh.gif Or you go to prison forever.....

Sad state of affairs when they can threaten jail for this, yet can't find any spare cells for paedos and rapists !

Part of the Scottish Borders has already had analogue TV turned off, loads of OAPs are moaning about it.

Just a few points ....

iPlayer only avalable in the UK, where so many of the population have entitlement to watch broadcast TV that the few who do not do not matter.

Dave is not a free channel - you pay for Dave by wasting your time on putting up with stupid adverts, same as all the non-BBC channels, INCLUDING the ones you pay hundreds of pounds on to subscribe to.

Most countries in Europe have a TV license - people seem to have this idea it is unique thing to the UK and that is total nonsense. At least in the UK, you don't have to pay a TV license if you don't have a TV, there are numerous countries where a license fee is collected as part of a utility bill or is levied on the basis of the POTENTIAL of receiving Television IF you were to have a TV set - note it is the Potential of receiving!

So apart from all the above, is £140 odd worth paying for the BBC Output?

Is around 40p a day to watch 2 mainstream TV stations, plus 3 more specialist Stations, numerous Radio stations, possibly the most comprehensive set of web-services anywhere in the world - and ALL of the above without advertisments (for UK users) reasonable value?

To right it is! - I would love it if there was a way that people who decided the license fee was not worth it could opt out and then be prevented from using the BBC stations and see how long they keep the same attitude.

My point is that I would gladly have adverts on BBC rather than paying for it.

I HAPPEN TO LIKE ADVERTS ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH GOOD TUNES LIKE 'LIVING ON THE CEILING' AND THE COOP ONE!

AND MOST COUNTRIES IN EUROPE ARE CURRENTLY HAVING RIOTS OVER THE ECONOMY ETC WHICH THE BBC DOESN'T REPORT!

So apart from all the above, is £140 odd worth paying for the BBC Output? CERTAINLY NOT. SELL OFF THE WHOLE THING! HOW COME STRICTLY FINALISTS CAN EARN £50,000 FOR A FEW HOURS WORK OVER THE NEXT YEAR - WHERE DOES THAT MONEY GO? IT GOES AGAINST COMPETITION LAW!

Well, that's right in theory - shame the licencing people don't realise this part.

I know 2 people who don't have TVs - both of which have been taken to court for non payment of a licence.

It starts with nasty letters, then inspectors demanding to search the house for tv equipment ( always refused entry of course ) and ends up in court where all charges are thrown out.

One of these guys has had this happen every year for the last 4 years. Nice to know that a portion of your licence fee goes towards the compensation he's awarded for the malicious prosecution and harrassment he gets !

I think if you like the BBC then the tv licence is good value - considering what you pay for the sky etc etc

BUT there should definitely be a choice whether to pay it or not - its an archaic way of running a business but one the government seem happy to go along with - obviously they benefit from the whole arrangement, this says to me that unless there is some huge uprising against that it will never change as the BBC arnt going to put themselves out of business and the government arnt going to cut off their nose to spite their face are they?

I will not disagree with this at all.

Personally I support the principle of the License fee 100%, but the collection and especially enforcement method leaves a lot of room for improvement.

I had a visit from the inspectors once many years ago and could not find my license, so they wrote down "no license" or whatever, but as they walked away I actually found it and showed them ..."sorry, we already wrote it. You'll need to appeal now". Jobsworths or what!!

Used to need a license many years ago for a radio but that is long gone (way before my time :P ) - the TV License does go towards paying for the BBC National Radio Stations and all the Local BBC Stations though

Just watching some of the 'other' channels - a few of which are showing shows like The Two Ronnies. Wonder how much BBC get for selling all of these??

When you consider Wossy is on £6m per year you need:

42,857 household's to pay their TV Licence just to fund him

Lets not forget the other bits and pieces they can do ....

The BBC has sold Sony the exclusive rights to use Topgear on one of their PS3 games (GT5) .... that must be worth a good few mill ;)

And the BBC are also planning to charge on using the iPlayer online later next year

Why dinna the BBC take the wages oot the DVD and magazine sales fur Top Gear, and giw us all a rebate fur the ales o top gear they make aw o'er the world???

I'm still not sure what he's had to apologise for - after all, he's not told any lies.

Let's check the evidence.

One eye --- Yep

Scottish --- Yep

Idiot --- Sold the UK gold reserves when the price of gold was the lowest it had ever been, As Chancellor he oversaw the banking system for 10 years - Now as PM he's seeing the fruition of his blase attitude, complacency and the misguided belief that the banks aren't just greed driven ! Then he bails out everyone who asks with hundreds of billions of taxpayers cash - current estimates reckon that we'll be paying for this action for decades. Meanwhile the Olympics we're staging ( you know, the one with the crappy logo ) has just been recosted again and the pricetag is up to 10 BILLION QUID at a time when the western world is deep in recession. No More Boom and bust, British Jobs for British workers etc etc.

Idiot?? or just plain useless - - - you decide !
