Avensis And Mp3 (french)

Bonjour

Merci

Laurent

Translation for non-French speakers:

Hello, I've just bought an Avensis at Elite Auto (12,5% discount and I'm extremely pleased). Great & fantastic car.

Only one problem: I'd like to listen to MP3 in the car. The (excellent) integrated radio only reads cassettes and CDs.

Is it possible to install an MP3 changer or hard drive without a cassette connector or an FM modulator?

Are there any MP3 changers compatible using an adapter?

Anybody got any experience?

Thanks,

Laurent

Salut Laurent,

I want to do exactly the same thing with my new Avensis. I've looked around a bit and I've found 2 CD changers that might be compatible: the Alpine CH1-S634 and the Sony CDX T70 MX.

FOr both of these you'll need an adapter at about £100, but I haven't yet been able to confirm this with a shop or an expert.

I'm going to continue looking around, but if you find anything out, give me a shout

(Feel free to translate this Yannick) Regarding the Sony method I believe you are talking about the ATYS001 interface. Please give Secenic Car Audio a try. It would be best to give them a ring however (if you can get someone to translate maybe). And they do post overseas.

For what it's worth, the kit I found for Sony was the MTYS001, with the MTYS00M adapter, but what I'm not sure of yet is if the stereo in the T25 is a Fujutsi-TEN or not.

OK here goes for the translation (but I think that you were doing fine yourself :P )

the factory fitted stereo unit on the new Avensis is not a Fujitsu-Ten, but a Panasonic.

Interesting... does that mean that I don't need an adapter?

Salut Yannick

As tu des idées ?

A+

Translation:

Thanks for the translations. I'm not that gifted in English (literally: I'm no *** in English :D )

I was in Toyota in Lyon yesterday. The service manager thinks that the radio is a Fujutsu or a Matsu****a, and he's never heard of an adapter.

Do you have a sticker on your radio?

On mine it has GYCQ MS 6271L and W53901. And yours?

The MS might mean Matsu****a?

With the W number I think that it's possible that it may be compatible with the Sony interface (http://www.add-a-cdchanger.co.uk).

None of the English sites selling the ATYS001 ever mention the 2003 model Avensis.

As a result I've got big doubts.

Any ideas?

Check out:

http://www.hendoncarstereo.co.uk/trolleyed...ed/99/index.htm and follow the Toyota link.

There are loads of possibilities (especially the RF Alpine - with lower quality sound)

In short: it's a mess.

Translation of my reply:

I've done the same as you in searching the web for information, and all the sites selling for Toyotas say that you need an adapter for Fujitsu radios (but without mentionning the 2003 Avensis). I've seen Matsu****a once, and IIRC you don't need an adapter.

maxventu says that the radio is a Panasonic, which could be good news... I think.

I've not yet had time to see a specialist (nor Toyota), but the non'integrated changers don't interest me. I want to be able to control the changer with the built-in radio.

I'll look for numbers/codes on my radio at lunchtime, and I'll go to the sites you've listed when I have time. If I find anything, I'll give you a shout.

Just managed to get Toyota to admit that the CD Changer for the Avenesis is the same one scince the 2000 model.

i had a 2001 avensis and now i have a 2004........and believe it or not the CD Changer has the same part no.

so for all you people out there who want cd changer but dont fancy paying toyota £500 you need a changer that can be controlled as a FUGITSU.

Salut Laurent,

Translation:

Hi Laurent,

Sorry, I forgot to check the number on the radio. But what Ian Chapple has said is interesting. It means that whatever the manufacturer of the radio, the changer has to be compatible with Fujutsu-TEN.

Just out of interest, can you check the model number of the radio in your car? It's normally next to the TOYOTA logo at the top left of the console.

thanx,

W53901

OK - that makes 3 of us  . One day soon I'll get an Alpine CHA-S634 or a Sony CDX T70MX and we'll see if I need the Fujitsu adapter.

It sounds as if you're getting ripped off in the UK. My Italian dealer offerred me the Toyota changer at €500 (~£350), or was it €400 (~£300)... I can't remember. I decided not to take it as it was too expensive :D .

Good we have the same number (W53901).

Tell us if it's working....

Is it a MP3 Changer ?

Laurent

Translation:

Ian Chapple was talking about the Toyota changer, which is a plain CD changer. But as it's the same changer as before it means that it's still compatible with the Fujitsu radio. All this means that even if the new radio isn't a Fujitsu, the changer controller still has a Fujitsu interface (protocol) - therefore you still need an adapter.

Good,

(There is an adaptor available for the Sony 6 disc MP3 changer but it is only

compatible with the Fujitsu 10 Head Unit.

The current price for the package is £244.99)

Life goes on...

OK: Panasonic = Matsu****a.

maybe it's compatible with other-branded changers (Fujitsu, Sony, etc., of course Toyota and Panasonic/Matsu****a).

Translation:

All that's left is to find an adapter on an English site. The problem is that they don't deliver to France.

On top of that you need to find a garage that will dismantle the radio and install the changer

My reply:

I think that most British (not American) sites deliver to France.

For a garage, any car radio specialist will do the work. I'm sure that you could even do it yourself. I know of some in my area (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur), but not in yours :( . It might be an idea to ask them if they can order the adapter direct. I meant to pop in to Route66 in Nice, but I haven't had the time yet :(

The same with http://www.connects2.com and the MTSY001.

Finally there's an active forum on the Avensis (in German): http://14259.rapidforum.com/topic=100582456605

My reply translated:

I've not yet confirmed if the British sites deliver to France, but I think that most of them do. If I find one I'll send you the address.

Regarding the site offering a Sony with an adapter: I think that the Fujitsu-TEN adapter is the right one - therefore one of us is going to have to dare to order first :P

I've found a similar forum in German, I don't know if it's the same. They've supplied links in the discussion that your link points to - have you tried to follow them? My German is a bit limited, so I can't ask any questions :(

I've been fairly busy with other things since the new year, and I haven't had the time to investigate this as much as I wanted. I'd be interested if you order before me, otherwise I should be placing the order sometime this month, or next at the latest (I hope :D )
