Windscreen Replacement Cost ?

Well - 12 miles on the road after a spell getting the new turbo engine fitted then I get a chip on the windscreen. Size of a spider flattened (so whats the size of a flat spider I hear you ask?)

Fits under a pound coin....just.

Autowindscreens do the SAGA insurance jobs and charge £75 excess if a new screens needed. In this case, the screen is not scratched and apart from needing cleaned inside, would show no benefit to a new screen.

So I searched the web and came up with the price of a new screen in NZ as £68.41....add on the fitting cost and I suppose the excess is cheaper, but not that much cheaper!! :censor: :censor:

If the guy manages to glue/weld or whatever they do to capture the problem, then I think its done free, but not sure. However, the seals up the sides of the screen aren't right so it might be worth getting a new one put in....

for interest, anyone know the cost of a screen - its for the 4.1 series of course with a green tinge ? :crybaby:

Ah mean - £75 !! Thats the cost of almost 2 tank fulls !

They are currently offering free repairs to chipped screens which I guess is a joint venture with the insurance companies.

Thancs ancs (I spent a long time figuring out a reply)

The saga policy uses autowindscreens - but theres an autoglass just 2 minutes along the road so I might drop in there today for an opinion - I think its just gone beyond fixing (truth = I fancy not having to clean the inside of the screen for a bit).

bad news - the crack has already been done with resin and its obviously failed. These free 'fixes'must only be a temporary measure.....I guess the stress that the windscreen takes in keeping the 4.1 bodyshell rigid was just too much...or was it cos I was trying out the 3SGTE fited into it? I wonder. :unsure:

So its a new windscreen - no point in polishing this one then! I've asked them to fit a new seal/trim as the existing one is coming away from both vertical sides.
