Could just say rotary engine!!

Tought road tax was cheap as it is a 1.3???!!

yea but the the inventors name is better...

Road tax is on the Co2 rating now, and not the cc engine size...and even though it's a 1.3 the Co2 rating is high.....price you pay for the fun factor....

a frend of mine had a 2004 RX-8, as said before it drinks oil, and fuel, another problem he had was he would have trouble starting the engine on any sort of hill, took it to the dealers 3 times they couldnt find the problem?, in the end he sold it for a Golf GTI

Personally i was sadly dissapointed by the RX8.

I always had the impression they were the !Removed! after reading reviews on them and Top Gears own reports... drove one myself, just found it to be pathetic if your lazing about, not so bad when your balls out, and didnt really feel the handling was anything to shout about, concidering some reviews, and it never topped 20mpg. I actually felt the MX5 was a far superior car, just a shame its underpowered and you need to like men to drive one, and theyre all spazzy rag tops.

Still looks funky, nice interior etc, and the engine sounds mega, just completely lack luster... if it was TT and a bit stiffer on the springs and ARB then id porbably have higher thoughts for them.

Cars registered on or after 1 March 2001 are based on CO2 emissions. The Mazda kicks out the best part of 300g/km and averages 25mpg which will cost £435 a year to tax :D Not bad for a 1.3!!!

I couldn't have one simply because oil usage of 1 litre per 1,000 miles just isnt normal what ever Mazda say! I think a Nissan 350Z would be worth a look.

Yes thats true, however Mazda don't deny it or acknowledge an issue. At least Toyota have helped some of affected vvti owners, Mazda see it as a characteristic that costs the driver £150 every 10,000 miles.

Its normal for a rotary due to how the work, so they wont acknowledge it as a "problem" anyway.

As a proud Son of the Confederacy, I resent being called a damn Yankee, sir!! :D

Back on topic, my brother-in-law had a Suzuki motorcycle that had a wan...rotary engine, and while it was fast, it drank a lot of oil!

Not strictly correct.

Cars registered before 23/03/06 are capped at Band K.

My 2003 M3 would be in the highest tax band if it was after that date, but I just taxed it for a year at £210. it goes up next year to £215 then £245 in 2011 an RX-8 of the same age would cost the same.

Band CO2 (g/km) Current Rate 2009-10 standard rate 2010-11 standard rate

A Up to 100 £0 £0 £0

B 101-110 £35 £35 £20

C 111-120 £35 £35 £30

D 121-130 £120 £120 £90

E 131-140 £120 £120 £110

F 141-150 £120 £125 £125

G 151-165 £145 £150 £155

H 166-175 £170 £175 £180

I 176-185 £170 £175 £200

J 186-200 £210 £215 £235

K* 201-225 £210 £215 £245

L 226-255 £400 £405 £425

M Over 255 £400 £405 £435

* Band K includes cars that have a CO2 figure over 225g/km but were registered before 23 March 2006. These cars will stay in band K.

I still think the RX-8 is ugly though. But gains points for being correct wheel drive, and having a cool engine.

RX8's are awesome :) as long as you can live with something that looks that mongo.

Awesome handling, reliable (as long as they have been looked after), rev's like no other car and cheap as chips to buy! :D

Car tax going up again !!FFS  didnt the government think about encouraging people to get rid of/scrapping older cars little while back like thats gonna happen what with road tax at £400 on lot cars!!! no wonder alot people still got older cars their keeping on to. anyway bk to rx8 ,, i love them cars not driven one but heard it does drink lot of oil & fuel consumption is quite bad well for its performance anyways imagin if it was turbo charged lol & some early rx8 got some rusting/corrosion problems, there is a multiple page about it on their forum, think 1 point lots been recalled in america as its similer situation there, so thats another thing to watch out for....although should be ok if still under warrenty....

I was one of the very first owners of the RX8, back in Nov 2003, and kept it for 3.5 years until I had to sell it after major knee surgery forced me into an automatic.

The car was great, but like many cars today, full of positives and negatives. My dealer provided great backup when needed.

Sadly, prices have plunged the car into serious chav territory and there are many that can purchase but not run one.

There is a great club, full of info here;

www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk

I could ramble on further but if considering one of these, also consider the 350Z and 330Ci. Do not consider a TT ;)
