Some New Mods For The Corolla

In the last month or so there have been a few more mods to the supercharged Corolla.

I’ve never seen a radiator cooling plate on a European market AE11. I’ve seen C-One plates on a JDM Levin AE111 which may have fitted with a bit of modification but they have been discontinued. So I’ve had a custom plate made by Clarkson Engineering in Bridgend. I gave them a cardboard template and they provided me with the plate though I had to tweak it a bit to get a perfect fit, I’ve had it powder coated in silver.

I’ve not seen gas bonnet struts on an AE111 either. I searched the net and came up with SGS Engineering who supplied struts and ball ends. I had to drill a hole in the bonnet hinge on each side to fix the upper ball and used an existing threaded hole at the lower end. They took less than an hour to fit.

A few years ago I saw some wind deflectors on an AE111 from a company called Climair. They were on the ball – I ordered them online on Wednesday and they were delivered the next day. Fitting the first one was a real pain, even following the instructions because I kept getting the top seal trapped under the deflector and this prevented the electric windows from closing. Once I’d discovered the proper technique the second one went on in less than a minute.

I’m bought some new Corolla specific mats from Autostyle to replace the crap generic ones I've been using. Very good quality and I especially like the red “Supercharged” logo.
