1996 Rav4 Earth Points

Right, the good weather has kicked in and now my cars sorted, its time to get the Mrs' Rav back on the road.

I posted ages ago on here about starting problems and didnt attend to the issue at the time. At the weekend, I charged the Battery, cleaned the terminals but don't know where all the earth points are. Can anybody tell me where they are located in a 1996 Rav? Description or pics, all advice is welcome.

I'd look at the manual but the previous owner managed to ruin it with a full cup of coffee, welding the pages together :P

you can try measuring earth continuity with a multimeter set on ohms and should get a reading between the earth lead of the Battery and the body

etc of less than 5 ohms.

As for the earth straps, I'm afraid both my cars have the 3SGTE engine installed so will be different to you, but I'd guess the Battery earth will be attached near to the bulkhead and there may be one on the gearbox. I'd a look at the haynes manual I have but couldn't find anything. Have you got a meter??

No not got a multimeter but theres a hardware shop down the road from me, I can pick one up easy enough. I'll take some readings and if no joy finding/cleaning the earth straps I'll post again.

Cheers for the advice bothie, I work in EK sometimes so if you see a pearescent rav running around then I've got it working and nicked her car ;)

I'll check my busy diary (which means I need to see what the boss is doing this week)...

I'm fairly clear during Thursday and Friday this week during the day if its any use to give you a hand/have a laugh? I've got a meter.

Thanks mate,

I'll find out tomorrow if I've got a holiday day approved for Thursday (nice coincedence) and let you know. I actually live in Barrhead but I'll give you some petrol money/beers for offering to help.

Cheers.
