  • 3 weeks later...

I now have some bloody awesome news with the GTi!! :D :D :D

I went to see her today, having been told that the doors and bumpers were in primer, but they were just pulling my leg and it turns out that pretty well everything besides the Tailgate is in Primer and is almost ready to paint!

They have also done so much work that is hidden but really neatens it up. Mark Rolled the Rear Arches so they are now folded perfectly back on each other, leaving no ridge whatsoever! They have been sealed off too so that no water can get in there and start the rust spree again. They didn't do the Fronts though as there is no need. The Tailgate is getting de-Locked and Wipered to make her more symmetrical but also because it leaves two less holes/seals to start rust off again. They are also dropping the Front Sunroof Drains lower so that they exit the car to the road rather than inside the Sills. The rear arches have been reconstructed too, aswell as the corners and they've been going round sealing everything off rather nicely, so the rust should stay at bay for a long while yet.

The Bumpers and stuff are all under 6 coats of Primer!

They have also done extensive work on both doors, smoothing it off beautifully so that it's to a show-car standard rather than commercial. All of them have said that it'll look sweet when she's done, which did put a smile on my face I have to say!

They estimate that she'll be out of there by the end of next month! :datsphat:

This has made everything worth the money, hassle, pain, sweat and tears. I am so happy with it, and she's not even been sprayed yet!

This looks like it has been an Epic journey of highs and lows.......... I can certainly see why you would have doubts and periods of CBA !!!!!

I truly dont think there are many people that start out on a build like this ever finish.

Hey mate, thank you for your kind words, and for taking the time to read through my work!!! I'm glad that you can understand my moods with this car  it certainly has proved to be a ball-ache at times, but following the most recent developments I am seriously motivated to finish her off now!

I have been called insane many a time for taking this on, especially seeing as when I started I had no form of income

Thanks again, and neither can I. I've been too long waiting to see her ready for shows... Cannot wait! :D

Cheers mate, yeh I loved seeing it today, I have some more pictures too! :D

Next step is to get her road legal, I have a mate coming down to weld the rear Turrets up, and I then have to get the interior, suspension, brakes and engine fitted and working in time for May when I take her to Japfest.

I'm really looking forward to it! :D

Cheers guys. :)

It's costing me £2200 to have all this work done at the garage, £1500 of that is coming from me, the rest is a loan from me mum, gotta give her credit for it! She has no interest in this and yet she is willing to stump up such a huge some of money.

Where I'll get the money for Tax, MOT, Insurance, Windscreen and various other bits and pieces is a mystery. Most likely I'll have to take my place as a Thai lady-boy for a length of time to get the money. I won't be proud of it, but I'd be damned if there were a more worthy cause!!

Should have her back very soon so I can start getting regular posts on her again to let you see what I'm doing. :D

Thank you both! You're so right dude, I still can't believe that it's my car, I keep thinking; "But there's no rust on it! It can't be mine!!"

Juts found out that I have had my work holiday granted and it starts just as I am expecting to have the GTi back in my hands! :D :yahoo:

I've made yet another trip to the garage today and it looks like I'll have the GTi back in my possession by the end of the week which is just the tits!!! :D :D :D

I've ordered for the Windscreen to be fitted again tomorrow, slight blue tint I just need to get the side-mouldings ordered in which is going to be interesting as Mr. T wants about £100 for them.

Wheels and Sunroof should be delivered this week too, and I am looking into ordering all the clips and fasteners that I need to get the skirts, rear screen and other bits and pieces back in. I am quite concerned because I cannot for the life of me remember what type of clips the bolts screwed into on the underside of the skirts, and like wise I cannot remember what the Skirts would "pop" into either. Not sure what to order so anyone who could maybe take their skirts off and show me some pictures and measurements of the clips would be a legend in my eyes!

I've got my plan together on getting her ready for the show, and my god I have my work cut out for me... as does everyone coming in to help, but this is going to be the final hoorah until she's ready for show.

Anyway, enough of the chat. Of course I had to get some pictures, and she has now been polished - this is now insanely sweet!!!

Ooh and I have ordered a set of these just this morning

Thanks mate! :toast:

Yes she will be getting coilovers but later on in the year or next year. I had 3 choices:

*Refurb the alloys and have standard suspension

*Get coilovers and keep the knackered alloys

*Get some sweet rims but on standard suspension.

I went for the 3rd option because I thought the Calibres would look just fine with the standard suspension for a little while longer. Whereas she'd look worse on knackered alloys with the centre caps missing

She is really coming together though, I am told that I should have her back with me this week. :yahoo:

Have I posted my custom plates yet? :D

I would be frightened to take her out on the road when finished.

Just one stone chip........................for me would be a heartbreaker.

Will quite possibly be one of the best in the UK?

Excellent work on a fantastic motor KP, pity Toyota dont make them like this anymore.........they could have made done so much more with the T Sport ex factory!

Thank you very much mate, I'm so happy to finally reached this point with her, definitely a stage that I often felt was swiftly slipping away from me. Obviously I owe many a thank you to the fine people here at TOC and many other Clubs who have helped me with this Project. Of course, it isn't over yet ;)

I am terrified of taking her out mate, it is a show car, not a daily driver. When you see the paint up close you see just how amazingly well done it really is. They have done a truly phenomenal job down at Style-Tech, and I cannot thank them enough either. IIRC they're going to get it up on the ramps to stone guard it today, and then just before I taker her out he will polish it again for good measure. :)

As for the best in the UK, I most certainly hope so, however the guys over at AE920C have some really good potential, I'm just waiting to see how they shape up.

Thanks again for the comments mate, I know what you mean with the CTS too, my dad has one and as much as I love it, I'd always rather have an old-skool Corolla/Supra.

My bill at the garage has been settle at £2380 to have her as you see in the picture. So I have some fitting up to do but I am so going to enjoy it! :D

Good to see a young lad with an old skool attitude!

My first experience of engines going over 7k rpm was my mk1 fwd corolla twin cam.

Superb engine and so much smoother at 7500rpm than the t sport engine.

Oh well............good for you though!
