Alarm Sounding Randomly And Won't Shut Off

Hi,

I have a 2000 Rav4 2.0GX Petrol 5 door. Recently the alarm has decided to sound randomly. First happened when I was sitting in the car and alarm/door locking was not even enabled. The alarm would not stop, operating the keyfob would interrupt it briefly then off it goes again. Since then about 1 or 2 times a day it goes off and will not arm/disarm properly for about 3 - 5 minutes.

Anyone got any suggestions?

I have booked in to Toyota garage next week, but this is starting to annoy me and more importantly the neighbours.

Trid locking the car with the key so alarm would not be armed, but still happened.

Have read some search results on google about valet/service reset button which can override the alarm - does this model have one?

Cheers

MD

I think this happened once before and it turned out to be one of the door switches not making good contact with the body. Unscrew them one by one and clean the contact surface between them. If you open the doors one by one you MAY be able to see which one is bad by looking to see how bright the interior light shines. If one is dimmer than the rest home in on that.

Good luck.
